Question for military about access to political news

So I'm just wondering. What kind of access to current events do you men and women get while deployed or training or anything of that nature?

Like say if you were fighting a war, and at the same time the government had troops attacking citizens. Would you have access to that information?

Or are you folks basically cut off except for what you can sneak in time for, or hear from family members?

We have the internet. Even some remote operating bases have it. Most operations centers have access to SIPRNet, but not all personnel have access to the network.

We would have access to whatever was reported.

Some phones with internet service can also be used or acquired off the local economy. Some remote villages and compounds of Afghanistan do have satellite access to the Internet.

Well, from what I know, most military has better access to the information than the civilians do.

They get their news in an informative and unbiased manner unlike civilians whom have to deal with the biased opinion of the MSM.
