That's what Gay Day would sound like if it were self-righteous.

gay day sounds, well, gay! and ofcourse what better way to get people to attend by cutting yet ANOTHER day of class, maybe we should have a go to school day instead where the whole nation attempts to have 100% attendance and we attempt to not be a retarded nation for once

What are you talking about? Do you know what a curriculum is? It's mandated by the state of the federal government, it says everything that teachers NEED to teach, anything that is not in there, is left up to choice or not taught at all.

Something like this is not mandorty as it's the schools and teachers choice to participate.

No, if the school decides to participate in the program then the teachers are TOLD to participate as well. The teachers have to do what the school participates in. They are PAID to do so.

I do work in gay rights my friend and these sorts of campaigns are excellent for children. You are using a legitimate problem, which is bullying and factoring in tolerence for people who are different then themselves.

No, it is focused specifically toward homosexuality-based bullying only. It is not toward overall bullying in general. THAT is why there is conflict here.

If you choose to look at an anti-bullying program as purely ONE sided, then that is your problem.

Just because the group advocating the program is a gay rights group doesn't mean they are attempting to exclude any other forms of bullying.

I am sure they understand that the program is far reaching. Besides, gay bullying is one of the least reported of all bullying. When kids do come forward, usually little is done anyway to assist them.

Non-action by "morally" justified administrators and teachers is what leads to issues like Mathiew Shepard among others.

But you're comment suggested you are in favor of racially motivated or "other" minority centered "Days" or "Months".

This means you will DIVIDE PEOPLE into differing GROUPS, and split them up based on RACE, Sexuality, Whatever, and then turn around and say your PROMOTING equality???

This is backwards.

The only way to promote equality is to ELIMINATE all Racial/Social Division mechanisms!!!

AKA : No more asking your race on Employment Applications.

No more "group" months.

You claim to be against social divisions, but you are here suggesting more division mechanisms...

I actually agree with you.

Anything that divides the people is wrong and should be discouraged. There's a difference between promoting racial hatred or division and promoting cultural pride, which should be encouraged.

We should all be celebrating who we are as people and where we came from. Just not necessarily the way we do it now. Where in order to have a day of celebration for a group of people, something horrific, often violent must have happened which we need to guilt people into accepting was wrong.

Attempts to say that things like Black Heritage month or Asian Day are contributing to the divisiveness and separation of peoples in this country is just plain wrong and somewhat ignorant.

These sorts of events allow people to express their heritage without the restriction of Social Stigma. A chance for people to learn something new about somebody else.

These things actually bring us together as people, when they aren't the product of guilt for actions of the past.

I never really understood the "Melting Pot" mentality of the United States.

Edit To Add: You ask what happened to American Pride? America was built by those people you list above. Everybody in America who is not a Native-American has roots in a different continent.

How could people complain about celebrating your very foundation? 1 day a year.

If we would stop shoving all of our differences in eachother's faces, I believe we would get along alot better as bigotry and racial discrimination would be drastically reduced.

So...the entire civil rights movement - a complete bust?

Segregation - make sense to you?

Women's suffrage movement too? Waste of time and energy?

How about wheel chair ramps - how the hell did those happen?

Children no longer work outrageous hours in dangerous environments - how useful is that really?

People treat the blind and deaf differently nowadays - we even provide extra special services - so that they can 'hear' and 'see'. Our tax dollars - wasted again?

Maybe we really should just go back to shutting our mouths and trusting in a goodly king - someone will usually always look out for all our best interests...

Because - it's obvious. We all treat each other pretty well - usually. A good look at history will bear this out - I'm pretty sure

awareness - it's not for everyone
