Alaska bound...

Hi, I recently got hired for a cannery job in Alaska, I leave at the end of June for orientation. My projected income for the fishing season is 15-20K. I have been to forums and watched videos about Alaska but I would like some more info if anyone has any. I would also like some suggestions on what to do with the money. I believe in being ready for a scenario in which I would need to rely on survival skills, hence the reason I am doing this. I wont specify but I am sure some of you can imagine which scenario that would be. I will be there for about 3 months. This is a huge life change and would really appreciate any comments or suggestions on this.

I was there sev. years ago but never worked in a cannery. My kin
up there said they would use a bottle of cola soda in the washing
machine to get the fish smell out of the workclothes.
I know it must be hard work but hey if it is maybe you will be real
careful how you spend your hard earned money. I am older but if I
could do it all over I'd buy a home..but a functional/conservative one
or some land. Nobody really knows what is going to happen or when
you are going to have to spend money that you did not intend to spend.
If you had to move out suddenly from your town back home then maybe
a camper/ truck would be a good idea..it all depends really, it's your
choice.

I used to live in Kodiak, Alaska, but granted, I was a kid when I was there...and a lot has changed.

Just learn what to do around bears. They are everywhere. Of course, for the most part, if you leave them alone, they will do likewise... Just don't compete with them for food (go to another place to fish or pick berries, etc.)
