Protesters seized internal security headquarters and a state TV channel after fatal clashes with government forces in Kyrgyzstan Wednesday, saying they now controlled the Central Asian nation that hosts a U.S. base key to the Afghan war.

What appeared to be a revolution in this mountainous former Soviet republic erupted when thousands of protesters furious over corruption and spiraling utility bills seized government buildings in Bishkek and clashed with police, who opened fire, killing dozens and wounding hundreds. The unrest did not appear likely to immediately spread across former Soviet

Kyrgyzstan's Health Ministry said 40 people had died and more than 400 were wounded in clashes with police. Opposition activist Toktoim Umetalieva said at least 100 people had died after police opened fire with live ammunition

It takes SACRIFICE for real change. the Kyrgyz people were willing to sacrifice themselves in order for real change to take place in their country. The corrupt US backed Tulip Revolution leader has been toppled, and the opposition has taken over with the consent of the people. the opposition also doesnt want the US air base in manas to be there anymore. they want the US out of their country.

as far as i can tell, there isnt. now its entriely possible that somewhere there is a hidden hand, i know the leader of the kyrgyz opposition is already forming a new government and is demanding the corupt current president to step down. i dont know his political affiliation or ideology. as far as i can tell its a popular uprising..

I hope it's Anarchist so we can have a "test subject" to see if ti works in modern times or not.

when the gov starts shooting people
then the peaceful demonstrations
cease to become peaceful, on both sides.
The world wants good change
but the PTB don't listen.

i agree, i have a link on my profile "Anarchist FAQ" and i find anarchism to be very utopian and where one day, if the "forces of good" prevail, humanity should find itself. tho sadly i doubt this is an anarchist uprising, it would be very interesting to see if it would prevail, unfortunately again, it prolly wouldnt last long because the rest of the world doesnt work that way and one way or the other thru military force, such a country would not last long. they never have...

Can someone tell me, I kindly ask, except for Gandhi, has ever any peaceful revolution/demonstration ever worked in modern time?
As far as I can tell, most of the time there were agent provocateurs present [every single time where I live, I've seen it with my own eyes when my gov used convicts to do some damage for benefits so police has justification to break up the demonstrators] on the rally.
This was a big sacrifice, but I fear another puppet will take place, initially with good intentions, but he will be forced to play the game or be shot dead.

Back then when Serbia's prime minister Zoran Djindjic in his last days started to defend Serbia's position on Kosovo, he was shot dead with a sniper.
I wouldn't be in the shoes of the new president of Kyrgyzstan

The political forces responsible for the revolt are the Social Democratic Party of Kyrgyzstan.

It is headed by Bakyt Beshimov.

from his wiki article:
Bakyt Beshimov came under the intense pressure for actively opposing Kyrgyz Governments initial decision to evict US Air Base[16]. He was the only MP to vote for keeping the US Air Base open[17]. Arguing for the importance of US Air Base to the security in Central Asia, created further divide between Beshimov and pro-Russian government of Bakiev

Roza Otunbayeva, a senior member of SDPK has been declared defacto leader of the country.

The new defacto leader is a former communist and former Soviet ambassador to Malaysia, Roza Otunbayeva

It appears the new president is a former soviet communist. Maybe that is their test, create a new form of communism where tptb get rich, they severely restrict civil liberties, hold democratic elections with a monopoly system, and keep the people just calm enough and blind enough so that they never rise up. It will be like China, a communist government with capitalism.

I dunno. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. Probably conditions are terrible there and people had just had enough.

And in this case, which "TPTB" are we talking about? Russians? Americans? Perhaps even Chinese or Indians trying to get a toehold in a strtegically vital region? I don't think anyone's firmly in control of that area. What you have instead is a swirling vortex of an increasing number of powers jockying for position.
