Are all of these earthquakes just coincidences?

People keep making all of these claims that there are more earthquakes and that they are a higher magnitude than in previous years, but has anyone actually done a statistical analysis of any kind. All I see are people making claims without any mathematical support showing that this year is in fact an anomaly.

There are any number of places where one can see the amount and magnitude of past years quakes .

My last post I included such a link , as have other posters .

Having said that your point is spot on IMHO . Just because the media is reporting quakes more often doesn't mean that there are any more this year then past years .

You are also spot on when you suggest that people do a bit of researching before jumping on the quake train .

The numbers and sources ARE in the post for anyone who actually reads it. Yes earth changes are happening. Yes its big. And who knows, maybe it will bring down nations. The weather, the quakes, the dying bees, the solar storms, the ceaseless pointless war.
Just look around folks.

I was just checking out the U.S. map on the usgs site and found a quake the day before the mining incident in Montcoal WV. Probably no correlation, as it registered as a 3.4 more than 50 miles from Montcoal, but maybe the 3.4 was enough to rupture a metane pocket there? Anyways before I get reprimanded for being ot, No I do not believe these quakes are coincidences, I think they are a precursor to something much larger. Maybe this is the year when Cali breaks off into the ocean. ...wonder how far they would have to float before the U.S. deems them not a state anymore.

Not really a statistical study but I think you can get the idea.

Earthquakes of 7.0 and greater since 1900

For data from 1973 to 2009 I used this (1973 is as early as it goes) source
For data from 1900 to 1972 I used this source

Earthquakes of 7.5 and greater since 1900

Hi, quakes watchers.

There was quite a "low" around 1990.

Could be the reason for our "feelings". . .

Blue skies.
