Something possibly going on in my city...

I am thinking there is something going on in my city, I though I am not sure what, the Mayor and city council have raised property taxes up as much as 17% and are cutting a lot of services to save money.

It seems like they current council is just lining their pockets but some facts are that the city I am in has two councilors per ward. And neighboring cities offer more services even those whose cities are of the same size ( pop. 125000)

On top of that the city is suing a grassroots movement for $5 million due to some issues with protesters occupying lands the city wants to develop for businesses.

Of course something is going on it's called the bills coming due for all that deficit spending and lots of people out of work so less revenue coming in to pay the interest on the debts. It's happening all over the country. Its called a depression and this one will be much worse then the 1930's.

Government is like a teenager with car keys, whisky, and an unlimited credit card. They live high on the hog on that credit card and never pay the bills, just borrow more. Well there is no more to borrow.

With any luck the economy will crash soon so we can start rebuilding!

Aren't those cities in Canada? My geography is not great and as reasonable as it seems to assume that a failing U.S. economy is to blame, that assumption needs to be re-evaluated if neighboring counties of the same population density are NOT experiencing these difficulties and if the area in question is not a U.S. city.

I don't see how she could've been put back in the refrigerator after being deemed sour. Yes, this indicates a parable I'm not familiar with.

Being how this is happening in Canada, that tends to rule out FEMA camp development, in my eye.

Something is afoot, I can't put my finger on it either. Keep us up to date?

Those links are from Canada but they will have the same problem also once their biggest trading partner goes into full blown depression. The US hasn't fixed their problems, they only but a band aid over an open chest wound. The problem is still their. Where going to go into Hyper Stagflation and when it happens it will take our financial system down. Maybe your correct that once it happens we can start to rebuild, but it won't happen like that. It may take us decades because in world history we haven't had the whole meltdown of a society with 300 million people who based their economic power on debt. And on top of that people will be fighting for whats left and not be in the sharing mood. We will be a country that will have 300 million people fighting over everything and anything in order to have that comfort they had before the implosion.

neighboring cities aren't having the same problems, Cambridge Ontario is a bit smaller than Guelph and they are doing just fine, as is Milton.

But the Slapp Suit thing, that kinda says people don't have the right to protest doesn't it?

Sounds like you uncovered the situation already - there's obvious cash in the lawsuit outcome, not the $5M but the sale of the land afterwards. In my small town that's how it's been done successfully for years. Good luck with the expose.

well the lands been empty its mostly been a old growth forest, or something. But I think the City is doing it to be sure no other protesters do anything like this current administration was set for the environment in mind, however things didn't turn out that way.

It is possibly that a lot of people here are not sheeple, they now whats going on and will watch every administration in town like a hawk regardless of political affiliation they have. I know for sure this one is more socialist in their agenda.

And people here will protest anything and everything there was one time where anti poverty activists protested in the city because social services was cutting back on monetary assistance, the group (GUTS) Guelph Union of Tenants and Supporters doesn't do much anymore but members have been arrested for instigating violence.

Sorry for the double post but I read at news.guelphmercury.com... that the city is virtually bankrupt which may explain a few things.

This may be why the city may soon be declaring bankruptcy which will not help much with the new council trying to get everything in order, when a city does that, they don't receive any assistance from the government. And we know city workers don't want to work for a city or a company that is bankrupt.
