A powerful explosion outside an airport in the southern Philippines on Tuesday killed at least 19 people and injured over 100 others, in what the
government said was "a brazen act of terrorism."
One American man is reportedly among the dead. Two other Americans were hospitalized.
A police official says the explosion was caused by a bomb hidden in a backpack.
The blast rocked the crowded waiting area of Davao airport on the island of Mindanao at 5:20 p.m. local time, said civil defense chief Susan Madrid.
In a separate incident Tuesday, an explosion in Tagum, about 18 miles north of Davao, injured two people, said military spokesman Lt. Col. Daniel
Lucero.
