Thirteen Israeli air strikes hit Gaza Strip

news.bbc.co.uk

Israeli planes have carried out 13 air strikes on the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, Palestinian sources have told the BBC.

Four of the strikes took place near the town of Khan Younis, where two Israeli soldiers were killed in clashes with Palestinian fighters last week.

The Israeli military has told the BBC the operation was targeting four weapons factories.

The strikes are the most serious for more than a year, says the BBC's Jon Donnison from Jerusalem.

The director of ambulance and emergency in the Palestinian Ministry of Health, Dr Muawiya Hassanein, said that three children includi

Looks like these air strikes by the IDF were in response to the earlier rocket attack that was launched from Gaza. So far there are no reports of any ground incursions by the IDF into Gaza. The intensity of hostile activities between IDF and Hamas has indeed increased in the past few weeks. However, I believe that the real hot spot of tensions has to be the Northern Israeli border. The reason is, any conflict between Hezbollah and IDF has greater chances of transforming into a regional war.

This is just not right man

For those thinking that Palestine drew first blood you need to understand the environment

Its long list of controlled goods also includes items that critics say have no apparent military value, such as children's crayons and books.

Israel doesn't even allow crayons or books into Gaza, they live in heaven and created a hell for Gaza, but they call gazans terroists as if apartheids and blockading people in their native land won't cause any rebellion.

To believe otherwise is being a sucker for propoganda and Nethanyus's slick double talking.

This needs to stop, the international community must protest this stronger than before.

crips hit bloods because the bloods hit the crips

bloods hit the crips because the crips hit the bloods.

this crap has been going on for soo long, that people barely know why they keep fighting...just that thats their culture.

Time to build a big wall around the whole area...give everyone swords, and tell em to go at it,...knock on the door when either they have decided to live together in peace, or until there is only 1 person left.

No, these were launched as a result of the IDF deaths last week. There was a mail drop over gaza pre-warning of the strike and why.

At the end of the day it sucks those troops were killed, it sucks the teenagers were killed - but - we are going for peace.

Why on earth would Israel launch a full blown airstrike with over 10 sorties at this very sensitive time? Clearly the current Israeli government does not want peace and does not want an independent Palestine. This is so clear.

It would seem obvious Israel knows they could fend off another attack by multiple muslim countries (Egypt, Syria, Jordan etc). Peace gets them no more land and in fact quite the opposite.

Imagine if Hamas had planes and had attacked Israeli defense platforms ? the media would be having a field day painting them in bad light.

If Hamas stopped being such Muppets and lobbing rockets into Israel, none of this would be happening!

This is terrible. My heart goes out to the poor Jews and Palestinians that have to live under these conditions.

I still hope for peace.

The Likud party seems to need these attacks and benefits from them greatly.

It's not the hamas I care about it's the innocent Palestinians my concerns are for. You know, the kids born, not yet knowing they are Palestinians or the women trying to protect their children.

happy good friday or what ever you call it

I find it ironic that you have people staring your post too. Now I'm gonna make a guess and say those who starred you are also probably religious(ok big assumption), you yourself have made it clear you re a believer. so answer me this

would Jesus get inside an F-16 fighter bomber and bomb an undefended country? Screaching over the skies of Gaza, putting the fear of death into the innocent civillians of Gaza.

I really wish some huge earthquake would hit over there and sink the whole Israel/Gaza area. If they can't live together peacefully, it should be totally destroyed so no one can live there. The pointless battles that go on over there is just getting on everyone's nerves.

It's always either Israel is always the victim and retaliates or Hamas just wants to terrorize Israel for no reason, when neither is completely true. They could just cut the stupid state down the middle and give the Palestinians the east side and Israel the west so they have access to the ocean routes while Palestinians could get products from the rest of the middle east. Then, if need be, build a gigantic wall down that middle.

Seriously, all the arguments people have are only based on their personal views on what they believe is right, or religion, when both sides do have valid points. It all comes down to which side can talk the most supporters to their cause. There will be no end to the fighting just because Palestinians are treated like cattle and trash. So if anyone, even if Palestinians object, react by attacking Israel, they have a valid reason to retaliate.

No matter which side you support there is NO blameless side in all of that conflict. Both are responsible for what's going on there, whether it be antagonizing the other side or any other means to stretch the tension.

I believe you, I believe you, I believe that you provide no sources to back yourself up.

Honestly, I don't believe you, and I think that you should take your zionist poison elsewhere as most people here are not as ignorant as the masses your people are doing an excellent job duping.

source? lol your a joke.. Now have u ever been there? prolyl not your stuck in your mommy's basement..

Ad homs do nothing but ruin your credibility and make your entire post a joke.
On the topic, it seems a bit harsh of a retaliation, 13 air strikes seems much too excessive.

Wow...
Yeah, let's kill all the people in those places, simply because their governments are using them as pawns to kill each other for political and religious gains, makes sense right?

I didn't say I wanted all the people killed, I said I wished to see the area destroyed. Somehow magically sunk into the sea or whatever. Didn't think I would have to type out that they could leave the area first or anything like that.

After doing alot of talks about this topic, you would be surprised the amount of people who sternly believe they should both be destroyed, my apologies for misunderstanding.

almost seven years of occupation is bound to get some blood boiling, especially when what land you have is continuously being encroached upon by way of illegal settlements, etc. Couple that with the fact that those on the other side of the fence receive millions in American funds every year so they can point turrets at your kids and hit anywhere they like with pin point accuracy.

A rocket or two here and there...in response to perpetual violations of UN charters and international agreements hmm. And when the response to said rockets is jet sorties, abrahms tanks and white phospherous I am reminded of the term Disproportionate response.
