Watched this video the other day and found it an interesting project.
A talk by Joel Levine on the topic of flight around mars.

Im optimitistic with this project as it will probably redesign the way we see mars and maybe get us some stunning photos!!

Intriguing thread!

As he mentioned, this truly will re-write the Mars history books. I'd like to see REAL HQ pictures of Cydonia.

A picture of Cydonia, as it really is??

You wish is my command:

AND, finally, the definitive picture of what was called the "face" on Mars, at Cydonia:

Just a trick of shadow, after all.

What about the pyramids? I know they are x10 larger than the ones in Giza.. and a lot older.

Cool plane.

But I think the idea of sending robots remote controlled from orbit is going to be the new focus of NASA. Since Obama's commission recommended it. the Messiah has spoken.

Since you all mentioned Cydonia.

Am I the only one who looks at the amazing pictures being taken of Mars from the orbiter and wonder why we don't have such great pictures of the "Face on Mars"?

If you really wanted to debunk it wouldn't you release a new color photo with better quality than that old black and white blurry thing?

Just a thought.

Richard C. Hoagland goes into great detail in his book Dark Mission into why they wont photograph Cydonia anymore...
Something along the line of the satilites positition of orbit it only passes over the location of Cydonia once in a blue moon or somthing, and after 2 to 3 times they had chances of taking higher resolution shots in colour which they did take but only released two or three greyscale images of the face one of them being ---->

upload.wikimedia.org...

With that photo the excuse was that this photo ended (in their eyes) the so called wild goose chase of cydonia

The book is definitly worth a read even though I myself am skeptical of Richard C Hoaglad most times.

WHY do people still believe Hoagland?

The man has been shown to be a fraud, countless times. His BIG success was selling a book, BEFORE the advent of the Internet, BTW....

Anyway....early photo of Cydonia, has been shown to be a peculiar moment in time, caught in an image, and just a play of shadows that allowed the HUMAN BRAIN to interpret it as a "face"....Of course, people have NO IDEA the scale of the region...it's like seeing a satellite image of, say, ICELAND and thinking it looks 'manufactured', just because of the shadows.

Further images (under different lighting conditions) show a different perspective, on a very benign, and completely natural, formaiton:

A definitive picture of what was called the "face" on Mars, at Cydonia:

An earlier question about 'pyramids', by an ATS member (forget who, sorry...)

Same answer, I believe.

Perception, of photos from orbit, with little size comparisons to relate to what's familiar with Earth photos.

AND, a big dose of speculation thrown into the mix....

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
NOW....the OP....
Interesting. Speculative, at the most.
That sort of 'aircraft', as depicted in the artist's rendering? Well, from what I understand about the very, very thin atmosphere of Mars, not bloody likely to be a sustainable airfoil (not unless the vehicle is a LOT lighter, in terms of manufacturing and components/materials used) OR it utilizes some sort of OTHER technology, not yet made public...
The fact that it tries to convey an aerodynamic concept, though, tends to diminish its credibility, knowing what we know about the Mars biosphere.
I will direct people's attention to various KNOWN aircraft that actually are designed, and proven to operate, in earth's atmosphere, at very, very high-altitudes (thus simulating the very thin atmosphere of Mars).
The U-2, for instance. AND, though they do NOT operate in very high altitudes, look at unpowered gliders (sailplanes) for some guidance into wing design, as in: Lift-over-drag coeffiecients, with very long-aspect wing ratios, and such. VERY important design considerations to maximize lift ability in very thin atmospheres.
In short: I think that image, as depicted by some "conceptual artist", is pure fantasy, and not scientifically accurate.
Did you watch the whole video? i just don't understand, cause the plane is no longer an artists rendering, it has already been constructed with a rocket and has been tested on our own atmosphere...
