Don't embarrass me by pointing out the unnatural, atomic-age colors of the Fruity Pebbles, the horrific amount of artificial flavors and/or preservatives and/or the sugar/sodium content of the following.

This is one of those recipes where you throw caution to the wind and absolve yourself of any responsibility you might have over yourself or any loved ones that you might feed these to.

Once you get past all that, these little square are sublime chunks of a beautiful and luscious technicolor heaven where marshmallows are a major food group and Post Cereals has you and your family's best interests at heart.

Basically, a rip-off of Rice Krispies Treats, these use Fruity Pebbles instead.

Fruity Pebbles are weird. People seem to either like them or ... not. They definitely don't have a taste that matches anything else in the natural world (or unnatural, for that matter).

But, for some, there is an intoxicating draw. I mean, I don't have to have Fruity Pebbles every morning for breakfast, not by far. I buy and eat a box maybe once every five years. But they're always there, on the back, dusty shelf in the attic of my mind, just casually waiting for when I stumble back on them and realize it's been a while ... time for some post-apocalyptic fare ... and this recipe which produces "treats" from their bounty MORE than hits the spot.

(I omit the vanilla icing option ... some of us know when to say "when.")

2 tablespoons butter
1 10.5-ounce bag miniature marshmallows
8 cups Fruity Pebbles cereal
Vanilla icing (optional)

Line an 11"x15" cookie sheet with foil.
Spray with cooking spray.
Microwave butter in large, microwaveable bowl on high for 30 seconds, until melted.
Add marshmallows and mix to coat.
Microwave for 2½ minutes more.
After 45 seconds, stir until blended and smooth.
Stir in Fruity Pebbles. Toss to coat.
Spray large, flat spatula with cooking spray.
Spread mixture evenly onto prepared sheet, using spatula.
Cool for 30 minutes.
Um, enjoy.

Just to be honest here.

I have a Fruity Pebbles addiction and I am man enough to admit it.
The 8 step program for addicts like me:
1. Admit you have a problem.
2. Find other people with your problem.
3. Stay out of the cereal section.
4. Find a healthier alternative to the sugar coated love crispies.
5. Research the pebbles alterior motives to rule the world.
6. Buy another box. (just one more....)
7. Begin at step 1 again.
8. Rinse, then repeat.

Great. Now I really have to make them because they do look tasty.
Man. I never thought I would be over this addiction. Thanks, now I won't.

Hey.

Those are so good! They are addicting. But, you've got to make it with Captain Crunch, too. You just follow the ol' RC Treats recipe and substitute the RC w/ CC....!

Hey.

can't believe it didn't even cross my mind, particularly after learning how well fp work. and i like cc even more than fp (again, only eat this crap rarely). cc treats will be made by me before the year is over. thanks more than you'll ever know.

one more thing, though. remind me, you ever used captain crunch as a breading? you can coat chicken breasts (or any parts) in a typical flour and/or cornmeal kinda coating, before or after an egg wash, then do a final coating of crushed captain crunch.

for some, it sounds kinda gross and too sweet. but it's so good and different. the sweetness is muted, so it's no more sweet than something like general tso's chicken or something like that. plus it's got awesome crunchability.
