Mine did.

I met KayEm in 1999. She lived in Oregon and I was in the UK.
During our first three years we spent only 6 months together.
Our secret was that our love was real and not some transient thing. We trusted each other implicitly and talked a lot, both on IM and on the phone.

Last year (May) we married in the UK and eventually moved to Oregon last August.

Long distance relationships can work. Its even easier now we have the net.
Basically, in order to work, they need Love, Trust and the willingness to fight against the obstacles.

50 miles is hardly a long distance relationship!

When I wake up, well I know I'm gonna be,
I'm gonna be the man who wakes up next to you
When I go out, well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who goes along with you
If I get drunk, well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who gets drunk next to you
And if I haver, hey I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's havering to you

But I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
Just to be the man who walked a thousand miles
To fall down at your door

When I'm working, yes I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's working hard for you
And when the money, comes in for the work I do
I'll pass almost every penny on to you
When I come home(When I come home), well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who comes back home to you
And if I grow old, well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's growing old with you

But I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
Just to be the man who walked a thousand miles
To fall down at your door

(Da da da)

Da Da Da Dun Diddle Un Diddle Un Diddle Uh Da Da

Da da da

When I'm lonely, well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's lonely without you
And when I'm dreaming, well I know I'm gonna dream
I'm gonna Dream about the time when I'm with you
When I go out(When I go out), well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who goes along with you
And when I come home(When I come home), yes I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who comes back home with you
I'm gonna be the man who's coming home with you

But I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more

And I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
Just to be the man who walked 5,000 miles
To fall down at your door.

How far does a Proclaimer walk?

500 miles?

Go to the back of the class.

500 + 500 = 1000.

LOL.

Start walking.

You know, I was engaged too when I was 16. First love is a bitch. You don't think anything will be worse than not being with that person. Sorry, this has nothing to do with a long distance relationship, you're being initiated into life. Hate to tell you this, but it sucks. On the up side, I've found a person, after that, that completes me. Wish I didn't have to go through a marriage to get there. Bottom line is that you are feeling like crap now, upside is that your life isn't over, you may not believe it now but life will get better.

I know you probably dont want to hear this, but you guys are in high school... dont you think its a little too early to decide you want to marry? If you guys end up drifting apart it wont be the end of the world. And if you guys do, Its better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all...

P.S. 50 miles isnt that far you know... do you drive? Is there a public transport system?

Still well within The Proclaimers' ambit.

Invest in some good shoes.

MA has a heart of coal. Can he not see the blazing love that emits forth? Can this evidence of passion never enflame his granite enclosed interior?

---

If she's really going to move to Canada, then might want to see if your parents or her parents can arrange to drive over once before she goes. Then, since you're in HS, you can apply to Candian colleges so you can be with her.

My message is really "Where there's a will, there's a way".

Now, if I ever heard that neonine's true love has packed up and left Canada to become a missionary in Zanzibar, I would be singing a different tune.

There is always the Jagger/Richards approach to things:

There've been so many girls that I've known
I've made so many cry and still I wonder why
Here comes the little girl
I see her walking down the street
She's all by herself
I try and knock her off her feet
But, she'll never break, never break, never break, never break
This heart of stone
Oh, no, no, this heart of stone

What's different about her? I don't really know
No matter how I try I just can't make her cry
'Cause she'll never break, never break, never break, never break
This heart of stone
Oh, no, no, no, this heart of stone

Don't keep on looking that some old way
If you try acting sad, you'll only make me glad
Better listen little girl
You go on walking down the street
I ain't got no love, I ain't the kind to meet
'Cause you'll never break, never break, never break, never break
This heart of stone
Oh, no, no, you'll never break this heart of stone darlin'
No, no, this heart of stone
You'll never break it darlin'
You won't break this heart of stone
Oh no no no
You better go
You better go home
'Cause you'll, you'll never break this heart of stone

It's kind of as opposite to MA as opposite could be.

Have patience and determination that love will grow and grow with time and distance. You haven't lost her love, you've only said a temporary goodbye to the physical body her love encompasses. Write letters, emails, whatever way possible to keep the touch going and growing until you can be together in a more complete sense.

I'm not leaving Canada to become a missionary but I am on a mission

Perfectly said, magestica.
Exactly what KayEm and myself did.

Well, hate to do it...but a dose of reality here...

1. You're in High School....you have NO idea what love, true love, IS yet... It's not a put down, it's simply life experience (or more importantly, lack thereof)....

2. 50 miles IS pretty far, when you don't have a car (which is most high-schoolers).....

3. Chances are YOU and HER will meet another while separated by distance... Unfortunately, one of you will do it first, breaking the other person's heart...

4. You CAN fall in love again you know....

5. I know two kids (high schoolers) who threw themselves off a bridge (Skyway bridge, a few years ago, here in Tampa Bay) (and died) all because one was moving away.... Don't be those kids...they left behind a lot of grieving loved ones....

6. Unless you're towards the end of High School, and you both plan on going to the same college....you're really fooling yourself if you think this will work....

Not all good news here.....but many's advice here is for adults, and the circumstances are WAY different in adult long distance relationships (which also rarely work even then).....
