This article tells what the real tensions between them and the US (POTUS OBAMA). Very informative and to the point.

So is this the final straw that will make Israel attack Iran? It does seem like Obama is goading Netanyahu into needing to make a show of his authority and decisiveness. I believe that Israel is much like Russia, where they respect a leader who makes bold decisions, even if they are occasionally wrong over a leader who spends too long trying to think things through.

I ouldn't tust the Debka files because Obama is simply pretending in fact Israel is still purchasing arms from the US www.presstv.ir...

I wonder if this "Simpson's" episode has anything to do with Obama's alleged plan?

The Simpsons have been to Australia, Britain, France and Japan, but now they could be taking on their greatest challenge - bringing peace to Israel and the Palestinians.

Multiple media sources have quoted the show's executive producer, Al Jean, as saying that America's number one animated family will head to the Holy Land next year.

"I think we're going to do one next year where they go to the Holy Land as we haven't been there yet. The premise will be that the Christians, the Jews and Muslims are united in that they all get mad at Homer. It's the only thing they can agree on," Jean said.

The Simpsons has long featured Jewish characters, most notably Krusty the Clown, born Herschel Shmoikel Pinkus Yerucham Krustofski. Krusty's father, an Orthodox rabbi, is voiced by veteran Jewish comedian Jackie Mason.

The rocky relationship between the two formed the premise for the epsiode "Like Father, Like Clown," a parody of the movie The Jazz Singer. In the episode, Krusty confronts the rabbi over his vehement opposition to his son's career as an entertainer.

Mason won an Emmy for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance for the episode.

Yeah, just saw the episode a little while ago. Pretty good, and even Flanders didn't get on my nerves very bad. Bart sidewalk surfed the Wailing Wall, and got into a fight with a cute little Israeli chick, while homer got lost in the desert looking for Flanders, and got a messiah complex, which they all did in the end. Pretty good episode, but I have seen better.

The rightness of this old adage still holds true, I believe:

The United States (or, more properly, the American people) are giving Israel billions of dollars and arms

As such, it behoves Israel to act in accordance with the dictates of the US



Should Israel not wish to obey the US -- then Israel is free to reject ALL the US's generosity ... no ?


Now, what do you believe is going to happen ? Will Israel decide it no longer wants all that free money and protection and arms ?


Because at the moment and for several decades past --- Israel has taken the gifts. After which, it has thumbed its nose at the US

Obama had better be careful.

Or he could be visited by a group of 10 men with False Passports.

Israel will do whatever they believe is in the best interest of Israel, regardless

For me, the topic of the article is really fascinating despite how you might view it.
Is Obama really exercising a Soft Power with Israel? Could it be an American president doesn't cowtow to Israel? Is that possible? Is there not a Zionist conspiracy?

I like politics but this one has me stumped and I can't just buy everything the article says. Good article nonetheless.

It's pretty simple, really. Likud has long been allied with the Republicans, especially the Neo-Cons in the U.S., while the Democrats have always been more allied with Labor. Of course, now you have Kadima, which sort of fits right in the middle, and the Democrats would be far, far happier to see a Kadima/Labor coalition in power again than Likud. I think Obama is definitely trying to cause a crisis and political trouble for Bibi so that he will be ousted in favor of probably a Kadima-led coalition government.

The tactics and views of Likud on a whole range of issues, but especially on the issue of Palestine is greatly at odds with what the Left in the U.S. (and the Left in Israel) want, which is a two state solution. Sharon, of course, came at long last to the point of view that the two-state solution was the only viable option, and I think it's quite likely he was poisoned for it, causing his permanent coma, as Rabin was assassinated for it years before.

I'm an American Jew and I am not a fan of the Right in Israel. I think the extremists on that side are capable of anything to further their aims and in the last decade or so I think they have gotten especially crazy, as are their close allies, the Neo-Cons in the U.S. If Obama can force a new election in Israel and get Bibi out of power, I say good for him. He'll be much better able to deal with a Kadima/Labor government, whose aims will be much more closely aligned with his own.

That's what I've been leaning to with the whole Bibi-Obama feud. I guess I just thought American politicians supported Israel no matter what.

This round two of Netanyahu is just no fun for anybody. Wouldn't it be nice to rid the world of "Hawk" style politicians.

Yeah, it's far more complicated than just being pro or anti-Israel. From the outside, people see these things too monolithically, as if all Jews everywhere believe the same things. Not all Jews have the same beliefs about even their own religion, much less about the politics of Israel. We have Reformed, Conservative, Orthodox and Hasidim (aka Ultra-Orthodox) all as major branches of belief, all who see the world and their own faith differently.

When it comes to Israeli politics, again you have anything from extremists who dream of killing any Arab they see (sadly, there are extremists in every group, it seems) to those who want to find peaceful and friendly reconciliation with Arabs and even those who think that the formation of Israel was a mistake and should have never even happened.

So if you are asking what do politicians in the US support in terms if Israel, what you are really asking is what idea of what Israel should be (or not be) do they support, and thus what faction within Israel and within the Jewish community in the U.S. do they support?

Thank you for your views on this. I have no attachments, in any way, however-I am curious about Jewish politics etc. I/We can only imagine what it must be like living in that area of the world with all of its problems.

I don't know but I would have to stick with the Right on this one-stay the path of survival and don't worry about POTUS. They must take care of their own people first.

I honestly think the days are numbered for another war in that area. Unfortunately, they will probably go at it without the US's support. That will/would be another nail in Obamas 2nd term.
