UK low carbon uptake 'too slow', Commons report warns

"The government must act faster if the UK is to fully benefit from low carbon technology, a report by MPs has warned.
The Energy and Climate Change Committee said in 2008 there were 881,000 green sector jobs - but with extra funding that could rise by 44% by 2015."

Whats everyones thoughts on the UK's carbon emissions?
Has anyone actually made up their own idea's on how to cut out carbon emissions etc? let me know.
I mean some argue that we are 7th highest country for carbon emissions in the world which doesn't seem so bad but we are only a tiny island!
Although America's carbon emissions are pretty huge, they do have a massive land area right? i mean i'm not cutting any of the countries slack however, everyone has to do there own part eh!

Uhm , krmt, why should we cut carbon emmision so drasticly ??
You can contribute by holding your breath for one hours per week, or stop having children, that is Bill Gate's solution... So .. What to say !?

Here's a set of figures that is pretty useful for comparing the UK and the US. England (not Britain or the UK, just England) has a 6th of the US population living in an area roughly 75th of the size of the US. So, whilst America is pretty massive, much of it is far, far less densely populated than England is generally.

One way I'd like to see carbon emission cut as well as general savings is lighting. The amount of unnecessary lighting and actual light pollution in England is shocking. A few years ago I read a report about 'lighting as security' regarding attacks and muggings in public &c. and it seems that whilst lighting works as a deterrent - and also stops you from falling over, getting lost &c. - it only works up to a point, and much of the lighting strategies in public places in England have gone beyond that point and are therefore unnecessary.

Yeahh there is an area called Runcorn Hills just next to where i lived before i moved to university and the area which had previously been touched has suddenly been given a huge amount of artificial lighting, it's ridiculous! x
