There was an effort in the 1st and 2nd centuries to make the Middle East the craddle of civilization. So alot of stuff was gathered from the trade routes and brought there. Gathered... as in pillaged and raped. In the effort to make one religion at the time much of the origins of artifacts were concealed and claimed as original property. In an effort to not be raped and pillaged other artifacts were moved to safer locations. So the connection to Hungary is interesting. Is that the origin or a hiding place? I vote origin.

Sumeria was once thought to be the oldest city, archaeologically speaking - however, more recent digs have changed those findings along with potentially upending the theory that the ancient cities of Sumer were the 'cradle of civilization, and even the theories related to cultural evolution of agrarian societies, etc....

For detailed information on Cuneiform, Linear B, and ultimately the various forms of Sumerian, there are several excellent online resources, including an online dictionary and in-depth resource for helping understand the decipherment as far as we know today.

Since reading this thread I have done some more research on the subject. Seems that the ancients started measuring time from the start of the written word. That's so interesting because of the impact it has on our modern society.
Observations... writing wasn't created for pleasure whereas language was at some capacity. Writing was mostly created to establish rules and regulation or for story telling. So I'm just curious to know what thoughts y'all have about the need of the ancients to document things in writing?
