Every planet and moon in our small corner of the Milky Way is scarred by the impacts of asteroids. Some of those early impacts can still be seen on Earth...

There's an interesting site that calculates the potential damage an asteroid can cause. Let's face it...the size of impact that ended the dinosaurs could easily bring an end to our brief moment on Earth's stage. With current technology our chances of deflecting a massive Near Earth Object is negligible...

Right now, there could be a bullet with our name on it. All we are, all we could be...it can all come to an abrupt end...

Welcome to the Earth Impact Effects Program: an easy-to-use, interactive web site for estimating the regional environmental consequences of an impact on Earth. This program will estimate the ejecta distribution, ground shaking, atmospheric blast wave, and thermal effects of an impact as well as the size of the crater produced. Please enter values in the boxes below to describe your impact event of choice and your distance away. Then click "Calculate Effects" to learn about the environmental consequences.

I'll be honest and admit I enjoyed playing God with massive asteroids...on the other hand...it's still a possibility that this can happen...

neo.jpl.nasa.gov...

Just today we had 1106 potentially hazardous asteroids...very neat...kinda.

spaceweather.com...

"Near-Earth Asteroids
Potentially Hazardous Asteroids (PHAs) are space rocks larger than approximately 100m that can come closer to Earth than 0.05 AU. None of the known PHAs is on a collision course with our planet, although astronomers are finding new ones all the time.
On March 12, 2010 there were 1106 potentially hazardous asteroids."
