Meet Google, for those that don't already know.

I thought this forum would be the best fit for this thread. It's a short video summing up what Google has been up to over the last few years. It's not hard to see where they are headed.. Kinda scary, but at the same time I feel a bit of excitement, I think that spawns from a small place in me that wants to see just how much chaos can really come from them.

With this video I just want to make the people that haven't been paying attention aware of what's to come in the future... Google is positioning themselves to.. well.. it appears that they want to take over the world..

I see where you are coming from that the contents of the video are both both exciting and worrying. The move that made me think twice about Google's intentions was when they announced their own Google Chrome web browser. They had been a supporter of Mozilla Firefox for some time and then out of the blue they decided to bring out their own web browser. Now they are looking into implementing all that stuff in the video too? Scary.

Those words from the Google CEO are rather concerning...

They are a great American firm. Their employees are fiercely loyal, which tells you something about how UN-evil they are as a company. The corporate culture they have created should be studied and emulated by others in the U.S.

I too am concerned about lack of privacy moving forward, but I think we are fighting a lost cause. It will not be long before we are all identified and identifiable, truth detection will become nearly 100% accurate and ubiquitous, and records of everything about you will be widely available.

I fear a global police state, but I am maintaining some hope that these changes will revolutionize our dealings with one another and begin a new era of trust and positive accountability. After all, "privacy" works for sociopaths, too. What would the world be like if every person were really held accountable for his actions?

That is a pretty one sided video with no facts about the companies Google has acquired or why they were acquired, only assumptions.

Yes, Google is a corporation just like any other. What do all corporations want? To reach 100% marketshare, then start spreading their tentacles into other areas to help them stay there.

There was a thread awhile back about Google wanting to be able to create their own power supply and somebody said if your company was completely dependent upon having a constant stream of energy to power all of your servers. Then it only makes sense that you would want to lower your energy bill and make sure you can have and control a steady stream of energy.

As for them wanting to be the internet company too. How is 1 Gigabit per second bad? I want that! Right now I have 20 Megabits a second.

And to what Eric Schmidit, the CEO of Google, said that if you don't want anyone to know your searches maybe you shouldn't be doing them in the first place. How is that not true?

If you watch the entire interview of where that quote comes from, he also says that Google depends on all of us to use it. So, if we don't trust them and stop using Google, then they lose too. So, it is in their best interest to keep privacy a top priority, if it is a top priority of ours.
