I couldn't agree more with the premise of this posting. In fact, there use to be a time in America when there were no cell phones, microwaves or
drive through restaurant industry to cater to your every whim. It was indeed a time when only the smart ones survived. Now let me explain.
I can remember kids in the age group of 8-13 would hang out outside. Both the guys and the girls but mostly the guys just hanging outdoors having fun
and looking for frogs and salamanders or whatever dead road kill we could poke with a stick. Imagine that, we would hang out outside in the great
outdoors regardless of weather and occasionally when we were bored, we would go to the railroad tracks and hop a passing train, go on long rides to
the next town while we pondered life and then jump off and catch a train going back to where we came from.
I can remember spending the day having awesome dirt clod fights and vicious BB gun fights and playing with matches and doing things that kids today
just don't do anymore. I can remember going looking for snakes and water moccasins for me were my most challenging and my most favorite afternoon
delight. Well, l I can honestly say that I never lost an eye, got snake bit or got seriously injured on my many hobo train rides and outdoor
adventures during those fun filled years.
The point I would like to make, is that as the title to this posting states, the Saber Tooth Lion ate the stupid ones. These days kids aren't
allowed to be kids and most parents don't understand why this lack of freedom actually makes kid more of a victim to life's challenges. A kids
ability to be a real kid made me more of a survivor and less of a victim in life and so I of course was struck by this posting's title. In today's
more modern world where we don't let kids be kids anymore we have come to see ample evidence that there is an abundance of those that get squeamish
when holding a worm or that couldn't hunt, kill and clean a squirrel without looking at you funny like and saying, "Boohoo" not in this life
time.
Times were different back in the day of the Saber Tooth Lions and by today's standards we have lots and lots of "Stupid Ones" waiting from some
lion to come and eat. I just know that when the eating begins and you know it could start any day now, that when that day comes, I'm going to handle
it in a different manner because something about staying alive has always helped to do just that.
Thanks for the posting. It really is a good title and an excellent metaphor for what is wrong with kids being kids and learning how not to become food
for the Saber Tooth Lion.
