Yes Aristocrat instead of a historical lesson in market volatility I asked you for disclosure on your behalf about what you are in now currently and how you plan to profit in the near future.

If you have indeed made these market calls in the past you no doubt will be moving to Palma Majorca after this and enjoying the nude beaches. I would at least. I just want some insight on what a professional would do to take full advantage of all of this.

Also, how do you see the market playing out into these events, or I should say what is your opinion on how the market leads up to this fateful date.

Could you just point me to the source/quote where Alistair Darling confirms that March 24th 2010 is doomsday.....I don't mean the ones where he confirms that 24th March will be budget day ,I mean the ones where he says it will be doomsday

It is my conclusion from the my experience on the markets and from:-

- Fundamental analysis (as scheduled on page one)
- Technical analysis (as scheduled elsewhere)
- My estimation of sentiment amongst the populous and politicians

That Darling's speech is metaphorically about to stumble drunkenly into a warehouse filled with nitroglycerine in the middle of the night, using a flamethrower to light his way.

GreenBicMan makes a good point.

Aristocrat, you could do your fellow ATS'ers a great service by imparting some of your stock market knowledge to us.

I have about £40k invested in the market at the moment, and I am an amateur, where should I be looking to move to?.....and when?........and how much?

Thanks in advance

He can't. He won't. He hasn't a clue. He's just worried that his paper money is going to be worthless...shhh! Don't tell him....it already is worthless.

Professional what? Window cleaner?

Well, Jenny my girlfriend, would hardly be happy with me going to a nude beach.

There is one investment better than any other at the moment, and if you want to know how to spend you money, here it is.

>>>> Buy a bus ticket.

Thanks for the reply, so Doomsday hasn't been confirmed by Alistair Darling, nor by anyone else.

You are simply using your experience to draw a conclusion, or in other words you are offering an opinion.

Thanks for clearing that up, for a minute there I was thinking that 24th March 2010 was going to be doomsday and that it had been confirmed.

When Alistair Darling stands up to make his budget speech it is guarnateed to create a catastrophe, regardless of when - the two are synonymous.

This morning he confirmed the date of his budget/catastrophe and it was reported on the BBC

Well if you can time the market like this historically you should be in the pits in the futures markets exponentially growing your fortune.

How do you plan on profiting from this and what positions are you holding currently? You can't honestly tell me you are a professional market timer and don't care to profit from the volatility can you?

As my cash holdings stand at approximately $142, (just added it up) that is hardly a worry to me.

I guess I, like the market, must discount the economic acumen of someone who has not yet mastered engrish. That people here would even entertain this foolishness is proof that even a fool can find a ppol of greater fools as an audience.

while i have a full time good paying job and can pay my mortgage, bills, etc life is good for me.

But i can see the doom and gloom everywhere if you cant your blind or live with your parents.

Everything i have can be gone tomorrow, and i know this.

Everyone should be humble, frugal, and understand things could be very different tomorrow.

Give the op a break hes just giving us his opinion.

Doomsday has nothing to do with this topic so why use "doomsday" on the topics name? Or wait..someone actually believes that when money loses value it's doomsday, apocalypse, SHTF?
Sigh, I kinda wish all markets crashed.

Wow, that company you said you own and the screenwriting gig must not be doing so well, huh? Might want to see if you could find a job as a professional date-setter, though.

ah jeez not this @#$#@ again *facepalm*

anyone who's been on ATS for more than a year knows that every few weeks there's a new prediction about the apocalypse that always seems to be "right around the corner"

The economies of the world were supposed to collapse last august, then again in october, then it was a december/january end of the world thing and now March. It's just endless and in the end the only thing it proves is that the fervent desire of some of these people FOR things to change AND for things to collapse is being PROJECTED by them with their overly garrulous posts onto us on this forum with insipid predictions that will never come to pass.

Keep moving folks, nothing to see here. Just another empty prediction based more on the poster's own desires than on any reality or evidence.

Oh, I've been in the pits ok. No-one likes a smart ass. In 1985, I was given the push at GW Joynsons particularly bitterly as my boss Indu loathed the fact that I had been bang on the number. (Although it didn't save her. She was gone from there herself a few months later) In 1987, again, the stockbrokers that I had been working for were happy to see me gone for "embarrassing the boss". Also I was seriously cheated out a fortune on a technicality in 1987 crash. The stockbrokers where I had an account noticed that I had not signed the "Risk Disclosure statement" that I had been required to sign that they had not told me about on 1st October 1987, so they declared my purchase to be "void" and kept the proceeds of my put option holdings. As all the cash I had in the world at that point was tied up in it, I was unable to hire a lawyer to fight it. That little brokerage went on to be come a big flashy one with magnificient offices within a couple of months, largely on the basis of my money.

More recently, however, I have had some successes. People thought me nuts to buy land in Mayo. A few months after doing so, the Canadian Government declare that as part of the "stimulus package" they would be building "Mayo B" a vast new Hydro electric dam and plant in the middle of the Yukon, a short distance from where I own the residential land.

I wouldn't sweat it, on March 25th, this thread, like countless before it, will fade into obscurity. He doesn't KNOW anything. He is guessing based on his assumptions of how the world market works. Guessing isn't confirmation, it's his own opinion.

Now, what I personally would like to invest in is doomsday predictions. If I could tap in that, I truly would be a rich man.

Are you completely stupid? I don't hold cash for precisely the reasons that you gave, I invest it.
