A few stories about TB have come up in the last day...this is not exactly a "pandemic" but I suppose its worth keeping an eye on.

"A few students and staff at UNCG [North Carolina] have tested positive for tuberculosis..."

"East London is the frontline in the fight against a resurgence of Tuberculosis.."

It has been mooted that TB is making a comeback although I believe it is still quite rare these days. Probably nothing.

There are types of TB with no cure. It seems to be more common in cities.
TB is a problem in prisons in the US.

Interesting. Any idea why? I guess a lot of people in a small space. Once it gets in it's hard to get out.

Particularly with the influx of people from the countries where TB is prevelent, middle east etc and far east, the UK is seeing a resurgence.

In fact TB is real pandemic:

In 2007 there were an estimated 13.7 million chronic active cases, 9.3 million new cases, and 1.8 million deaths, mostly in developing countries.

Wikipedia
I think numbers on Wikipedia are much lower then in reality - you can do magic with statistics as we have seen with swine flu ...

TB was quite thoroughly discussed in ATS Ukraine flu thread .
