The Mandan Indians of Montana are making money hand over fist with their newly discovered oil.

They didn't have to wait ten years to start drilling, they just drilled and got the oil.

They can do that because, they're Indians and live on a reservation. They are not subject to our environmental laws.

The Democrats are responsible for keeping us from our domestic oil and forcing us to use foreign oil.

There is plenty of oil right here in the US. Drilling it will seriously ease our financial situation. The Democrats will never allow it though, they owe too much to their foreign masters.

The Democrats deliberately sabotaged our economy from 1998 to 2008 and now they want to look benevolent by extending the unemployment benefits.

Democrats deserve to be swinging from light posts across the country by their necks.

Is this a political bash? I think it is safe to say that there are elements on both sides that don't want us drilling for oil. It serves oil manufacturers to have less drilling. If we knew that oil was everywhere we wouldn't be able to wage war for profit, there would be no interest and value of oil would become less.

How is this different than their finding a large source of oil under Arlington, Texas (within the past 10 years)?

For what it's worth, it takes a pipeline, oil collection units, drilling rigs, oil pumping units, and a lot of equipment and men to get oil out of the ground. The jobs generally go to anyone with skills, so this is creating employment in an area that has up to 80% unemployment.

I'm not sure why you have a problem with creating jobs in an area with employment that is so high.

The tribe may have leased the land for oil exploration and development, but it was land that they were forced onto after the government took THEIR land (in a series of treaties beginning in the 1800's) -- and then moved the tribes out of their major town in order to build a reservoir... and of course, the total area of the reservation shrank again.

Ok, whats your solution? You hate Democrats so much, why don't you tell us how you would fix the country?

I thought the Mandans were long gone after smallpox. Glad to hear they are still around It's good to hear that it creates some jobs as well.
I'm no fan of either party, I think both are eually guilty for our current economic situation. Of course scarcity is the reason for high prices, which is more tied to refining capacity than drilling IMO.
We do need to use less petroleum but we still need to explore and exploit new fields. Oil wells can be done in an environmentally-friendly fashion, it's a lot of hassle but still profitable.
I think your focus on the Democrats is pretty myopic, they're all just actors and the floor of Congress but a stage. American citizens need to stay clear of the theatrics and start pushing these people to do the right things, including drilling more oil domestically.

Sir, Indians are anarchists with no central government to keep them safe.

Of course they will exploit the land by ravaging it for resources.

We need a powerful government to protect us from actually acquiring resources for ourselves. This way mega-corporations that own government can horde them and use them in an ecologically friendly way.
