Well the thread title says it all,

Just curious as to what, and why, you're archiving documents. I did a search. all I came up with was a thread called Document Archive but it was vague at best as to an explanation.

In that thread I noticed mention of an FOIA forum that was currently restricted (which I found to be humorously ironic), none the less it too was not met with much explanation other than it is in a "hiatus" status in lieu of other projects. Granted it was all discussed in 2009.

Thank you in advance for your responses.

Some folks have "document archivist" in their avatars ... this was for those contributing to the FOIA forum which , as I understand it because it hasn't been active since I joined, is now dormant. The documents compiled by document archivists can still be read and contributed to in that forum by all members, they just can't create them as they are released via the "AboveTopSecret.com Information Account."

Perhaps someone who was part of the forum can explain it's slow decline, I assume that better vehicles were created to release information or that it was left up to members to do their own research and present their findings in thread form in their topic appropriate forums.

Basically, it used to be cool and now not so much.

Edit to add: Looking at the forum it seems that documents are still released periodically through the ATS account. So it's still cool.

Ahh. So "source(ers)" so to speak. Makes sense, I took it as thread archiving, meaning there were dedicated users that archived certain information from threads that met certain criteria i.e. someone gives instructions on how to build a time machine, gives the meaning to the Universe etc.

Maybe Google Archive 86'd the initial idea

Thanks for the explanation
