Being a bit of a trivia buff, I know that there are no traditionally celebrated holidays in the month of August in the US. It would appear that bit of trivia is about to change. The Good Day

The holiday is scheduled to start this year on Sunday August 15, 2010 and will be on the first Sunday of August hereafter so August 7, 2011 for next year.

The idea is not to just do good things but to work towards solving problems and not just treating symptoms of problems. A fairly noble idea and a somewhat novel philosophy.

The sarcastic side of me wonders that if the revolution was to start on August 15, 2010 to overthrow the US government and release the shackles of tyranny and oppression, that the murder, mayhem and suffering associated with such a war would still be compatible with the spirit of The Good Day.

Interesing.

Personally, I think we should call it Festivus.....

I think this is a rather beautiful idea, and not a conspiracy at all
I will crack up if it turns out that the "revolution" starts on August 15. I will crack up and then panic, that is.

The only conspiracy that could be derived from this is a conspiracy to make pepole better people. It would be nice if we could all be good every day, instead of just one day a year, but this will help us ease into pbeing good people. It's actually kind of cynical overall... But hopefully so.

Well, if someone's trying to kill you, and you happen to get them first, is that really murder? What if they publish books, white papers and articles about how they're going to kill you so there can be no question, is that still murder? Not that I advocate such a thing, just sayin'...

The value of such a day depends entirely on what "good" is expected to look like. I think the press has their idea...

Every day is a "good day" for me, then. I do something to move towards the abundance paradigm in some way, every day. This is working towards solving virtually ALL problems, for everyone.

In fact, I will link my latest effort - which links to a couple of others:

Thanks for the post! S&F for you!

It was actually this part that sat my sarcasm into motion. Given that this movement is in California and pets have more rights than their owners in Cali. PETA would filet these people alive for just this suggestion.

13. Get Your Priorities Straight
When you do good things, try to do what is more important first and then do the less important things after, and make sure issues concerning people are first. For example, your dog got hit by a car and you are about to pay $2,000 for surgery that will save its life, but your neighbors, a family of 4, lost their jobs and are about to be evicted from their home because they cannot pay the rent of $2,000 and you know they will be on the streets after they are evicted, what do you do? Let the dog die, then get up and walk to your neighbors house and offer them the money so they don't have to wander the streets with their children. Another example, a man volunteers everyday at a homeless shelter feeding and caring for poor and sick people, then he returns home every night, gets drunk and then beats his wife and kids until he passes out, what should he do? He needs to stop going to work and get help for his drinking and abuse problems immediately.

Truth be told, I always try to do the right thing even at my own sacrifice. Back when all the local firemen would stand out along intersection having Boot Drives for the victims of 9/11, I told one I didn't care if you guys were out here collecting gas money to get back to the station or for burgers to have a cookout. I wouldn't pass you guys by. Of course it made me divide donations between several departments when taking long trips through several towns.

The "Don't Contribute To Foul Deeds " part is interesting. It says to not support companies that you know supply terrorism. I suppose the writer really is trying to say we should overthrow the government on "The Good Day".

The article comes off a bit "preachy", i think. He must really think the majority of people are sinners. Everyday should be "The Good Day", we all have a conscience. I always treat others the way i'd like to be treated.

I wonder how many people will show to this get together. I'd kinda like to go too.
