Drug Company Had Hit List for Doctors Who Criticize Them

The international drug company Merck had a hit list of doctors who had to be "neutralized" or discredited because they had criticized the painkiller Vioxx, a now-withdrawn drug that the pharmaceutical giant produced.

Staff at the company emailed each other about the list of doctors. The email, which came out during a class-action suit against the drug company, included the words "neutralize," "neutralized" or "discredit" alongside some of the doctors' names.

The company is alleged to have used intimidation tactics against researchers, including dropping hints that the company would stop funding their institutions, and possibly even interfering with academic appointments.

"We may need to seek them out and destroy them where they live," a Merck employee wrote, according to an email excerpt read to the court.

First of all good job on the post, well written and cited. Now, to the topic.

Of course this is no surprise to people like myself and likely many ATS members who use their brain to question what they hear with their ears. To be honest, I'm surprised information on this, the unveiling of a possible "hit list", was allowed to be spread through the media. Either way, I'm glad to hear it and sad to hear it at the same time.

When we have inklings of what's going on, we like to think we're right, but we still hope that we're wrong for the sake of the world. Unfortunately, this is another story which essentially let the cat out of the bag.

People wonder why we say to avoid drugs... Not EVEN prescription drugs, but ESPECIALLY prescription drugs. People who are not leery of pharmaceutical companies and such should do more homework and open their eyes. Stop being sheep, people..
