Hey guys

I've lurked this site for years, as it's been a great source of alternate news and viewpoints.

I'm in a transitional phase of my life, and I think there are a myriad of personalities and viewpoints that I could contribute to, and have contribute to my insights.

By way of background.

I'm 29 years old, living in Australia. I joined the Australian Army in 1997 (straight out of school), and became a badged member of the Commando Regiment at the start of 99. My deployments took me near and far, including stints in East Timor, Afghanistan, and a few other places off the radar.

An injury on deployment caused me to discharge, and I pursued a career in business.

Starting in London, and then moving back to Aus to set up a company, which then filtered to another start up company, with both now in the process of being sold.

Over the last 4 years of business, I've amassed a small fortune - I drive a Ferrari, own 9 investment properties outright, and have everything that most people dream and aspire to.

The reason I've pointed out the above is to highlight my next statement; I'm completely disenchanted. To sound cliched, it's bought me absolutely nothing but stress, heartache and a deep resentment for the pursuit of wealth.

My partners and my plan is to complete this sale, travel, and end up in a years time in Mumbai, devoting our money to setting up orphanages, schooling children, feeding the poor, anything to try and erase this deep seeded guilt.

It's hard to explain - the last few years I've been obsessed with the building of an empire, with all the trappings ... and it doesn't mean anything (it means less than nothing in all fairness). I can't shake the feeling that this purported "success" that is shoveled to us is purely a means to keep us trapped within the cycle, to blind us from what is truly out there, the possibilities, the experiences, the messages.

From my research, a food shelter can be set up in Mumbai for around $1,000AUS a month - which will feed hundreds of homeless children. Yet no-one does this, because we are so innately consumed with the need to upgrade our computers, or buy the new car, or something ... I'm not casting judgement on ANYONE but myself, because each persons position is different.

I know I'm rambling, but I'm hoping some people can associate with this, and help me to place my feet firmly on a path which will help others. I truly, deeply want to devote my money & time, and bend my mind to overcome others burdens.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Erik

LOL - can't figure out if you're taking the pi$$ or you're being serious.

Either way, I live in Australia; I wouldn't invest in a business where I couldn't meet the people on the ground.

Welcome aboard.

I've been meditating since I was six, and on a spiritual path most of my life. And honestly, a fortune and a ferrari sounds pretty good to me.

That may be, but...

anything to try and erase this deep seeded guilt.

Guilt can be just as much of a trap. There is no need to feel shame for where you have been. If you wish to help others, so be it. But feeling bad about the path you chose to get where you are is unlikely to benefit them.

I really don't know - I do know that there is alot of deeply intellectual and metaphysical debate which goes on here; and hell, it's a good place to start!

Agreed - but I also think the most positive actions come from strong, emotionally charged emotions. Being aware of the fallacies of ones life will only help strengthen the resolve to make action, not just posturing.

That may be. But what would you say generally motivates the most negative actions?

Do you perceive them as fallacies?

The exact same thing. I agree with the point that you're making, but I'm focusing on using emotion to motivate towards a greater good. There's always a flip side.

Somewhat - the achievement has cancelled out the desire for the pursuit. Without attaining the wealth, I would always chase it.

I've often thought that this is probably the appropriate response to desire.

Thank you for your answers.
