My GF pretty much ruined this movie for me by figuring out the twist and telling me even before we had our popcorn. She can spot this type of thing by seeing the trailer.

But Scorsese and DiCaprio did a great job in this film noir treatment of paranoid horror. The pace of this movie moved fast but still conveyed a feeling of unrelenting dread. Far from a masterpiece but still a very solid film that I can highly recommend. Not for young kids as there is some very graphic and distrubing imagery.

Thanks whaaa, I'm a big Scorsese fan and look forward to seeing this based on your review.

Also, please tell your GF not to be in attendence when I go....thank you.

Saw this last weekend with my wife. I thought it was compelling enough to hold my interest. The overall setting and atmospheric tone of the movie was excellent. My wife's comment was, if we'd been at home watching the DVD, she wouldn't have sat through to the end.

I admit I was a bit disappointed. All in all though, it's worth seeing. Given the trailers and Scorsese and the cast, I just expected something better.

Did anyone else find the soundtrack to this movie just a little odd? Usually Scorsese is amazing with music, my favorite example being Gimme Shelter in the Departed. But this? The soundtrack ruined the intensity of the film for me, and I stated wondering how out of breath you would be after holding that note.

The first five min. of the film was over the top with trying to set the mood with the scary, foreboding music. Much to loud, distracting...

All the movies I've seen that Scorsese's directed I've like, so I'll definetly watch this one. I bought the book not that long ago. Haven't read it yet though.

I had the twist ruined for me just by trying to look up why it was pushed back and happened upon a discussion of people who read the book talking. Still a good movie, kept me interested and i like Leonardo Di Caprio he was great

At some point in the movie you figure out the twist. My gf figured it out long b4 me as well, although i had suspicions.

Towards the end of the movie i was actually hoping theyd throw in a real loop and do a double twist, but they didnt.

Overall it was worth seeing, good suspense.

I expected some type of Hanibal Lecter mentality from the crazies on shutter Island you know with his sort of " psychic ability ". In that area there was almost nothing in the film so I was sort of let down a bit but hey it had Leonardo D'Caprio in it. That helps a lot. I loved his Catch me if you can movie, loved it, loved it.

psychic (pronounced /ˈsaɪkɨk/; from the Greek ψυχικός psychikos—"of the soul, mental", also called sensitive[1]) is a person who professes an ability to perceive information hidden from the normal senses through extrasensory perception, or is said by others to have such abilities, "

Like almost every one of the newer Scorsese movies, I was unbelievably let down by the end. The Departed was a great movie with a horrible ending, and Shutter Island was no different.

The tone of the movie was incredibly Hitchcockian, which was great. Someone mentioned the soundtrack and I think that it was INCREDIBLE for the feel of the movie. Those dark ominous tones just put me right in it.

I would dare say, in my opinion, this could have been his magnus opus had the end not been so incredibly contrived and stretched out.

OK.... well a little late but I finally got around to watching this and I liked it.
Was actually better than I thought it would be.

And I like the ambiguity...

Someone mentioned above a double twist, well depending on how you view it, it could well have been a double twist...... Was he sane or Insane?

I thought it held my attention, was atmospheric and all in all a pretty good movie.

"Rubber reality" type movies are usually my favourite and I really liked this one too.

Alright I just watched this a few days ago. I didnt really expect to like the movie but I was bored at night and figured I would give it a go.

*SPOILERS*

It was fast paced and at times I started to get confused but eventually I caught on. I actually didnt expect the ending at all. They made it to where its up to you to decide what really happened. Was the lady in the cave right, and he finally gave in to the mind control? Or was he really messed up in the head, and just wanted to forget?

I'll never need to watch it again. I'd wrather see the titanic ten more times.

It does seem the stage is set for a sequel. Maybe I should see it again, I might have missed something. But what?

I'd have to agree. The movie itself wasn't great, but the movie-craft in it, was superb.... Shots, lighting, setting the scene, the music, etc. Too bad the rest didn't all work on the same level.

Still though, I enjoyed it, even if the "twist" wasn't hard to spot. Still though, after so many "twist" movies in the past decade, it's getting harder to fool the audience.
