i was just doing research on john quincy adams, 6th president of the United States & something caught my eye:

John Quincy Adams (July 11, 1767 – February 23, 1848) was the sixth President of the United States from March 4, 1825 to March 4, 1829. He was also an American diplomat and served in both the Senate and House of Representatives. He was a member of the Federalist, Democratic-Republican, National Republican, and later Anti-Masonic and Whig parties.

does something stand out as unusual to you?

fair enough, wikipedia isnt the best or most reliable source of information, but is this some kind of set up opposition? the fact that they introduced the adoption of party platforms (which have lost most importance now and mainly consist of pledging to do what is best for the United States of America, planks are avoided because they seem to be proof of lack of unity within the party) and national conventions themselves implies that they are essentially trying to improve an institution established by freemasons themselves and therefore they are.
isnt it contradictory in the slightest therefore?

This would have been an outgrowth of the anti-Deist, Anti-Jefferson movement.. at one time Thomas Paine's casket was even exhumed and paraded through the streets.... this was the Federalist movements consolidation of power, and an effort to depopularize Jefferson and the rest of the Deists..and began after the First Bank of the United States was established in 1791.
