2012 is out of hand.

I’m honestly going to start off with not ranting but honestly saying the facts. I know a lot of people are set in their ways about 2012, no matter if it’s a solar storm, god coming down and saving us, nibiru, etc… But honestly I’m going to ask where do you see these “facts” you see to speak of? What book am I missing? Because honestly the Mayans NEVER predicted the end of the world. They made a calendar, they didn’t have computers back then, they didn’t have electricity. There calendar was bound to end because a calendar can’t go on forever it eventually resets. I visit these boards every day and I find that a lot of peoples theories are ridiculous. If you do any research about the Mayans again they never predicted the end, mankind was the one that says “oh geez the calendar ends it must be the end of the world” we need to move past that approach and think about it fully without coming up with stupid yes stupid theories.

Face is, more than half of us are not scientists, more than half of you don’t do full research before you come up with a theory. You just think okay so I’m going to get a lot of people scared and come up with a bogus theory that I don’t even know about.

To sum it all up what I want to truly say is. Mankind predicted the end. Not the Mayans. We think just because a calendar ends it’s the end which is not true. It's out of hand people believe something they read on the internet, they don't look into the data or into the history of the Mayans. We just continue to doom our self's and no wonder why many people don't believe most of the stuff on ATS.

I think many people have a general negative feeling about the future. There are those that capitalize on this and attempt to provide an answer that is plausible. The key in my mind is why does a large group of the population sense impending doom?

Exactly! It's all about end the end etc... more about the end. Honestly I read an article people back in 1950 thought the end was coming. And I'm sure people before the 1900's thought the end was near. What if the end is never here. What if it is we just live life and enjoy life? Some of the theories in the bible I believe are lies and continue to say the end, Not many people think about that.

While I wouldn't choose the word "stupid" to describe anyone or their ideas around 2012, I agree wholeheartedly with the spirit of the OP. I'm by no means an expert on this topic, though I've done a bit of research and spoken with some very knowledgeable academics who have spent years with this material. As I understand, it's quite true that the Mayan long-count calendar does not predict the end of the world. It's far more likely that those who formulated the calendar simply did not see the need to begin immediate work on the next "cycle" at the time of the calendar's creation. The end of the long-count represents the beginning of a new one which had not yet been recorded.

The fact that it coincides quite roughly with other "prophecies" and end-times scenarios has made the topic catnip to conspiracy and alternative writers. As we all know, that is a shelf at your bookstore that is rife with bad science and selective scholarship. There are aspects to the Mayan calendar that are indeed fascinating, and well worth pursuing, and credit should be given to those ancients for their studies in astronomy, mathematics and metaphysics. But people should take a more critical look at what is being said about this "end of the world," and what the Mayans themselves actually said.

Every day is a beginning to a new end. There will always be those that fear the end, and those who look forward to the new beginning. When observed from above however, there really is no true end, because it's a repeating cycle, like the Mayan Calendar. I do not fear 2012; there isn't much too really fear that I've found, I will look forward instead.

You are correct. Actually I believe 2012 was the latest date they (TPTB) could try to establish an empire of fear. But something went wrong in their agenda and the "end of the world" already happened this year. It was in fact the end of THEIR world.

No fear needed anymore. Fear will only block you in a never-ending circle.

I do agree the whole 2012 thing is getting out of hand. Every time I am in a bookstore they have more and more books with more and more theories on it. It's a money magnet right now for people.

however, i do agree that way too many theories are being thrown out there. they are not all 100% accurate and truthful.
This is because i believe there is truth to this whole "2012 phenomenon" but do to the overwhelming amount of people trying to jump onto the "bandwagon" the true message is lost in the herd.

it may be a time for human spontaneous evolution. that is my take on it at the moment at least.

If was not for 2012 Prediction, most of us will still be sleeping because we will still think we have all the time in the world to get it right. The closeness of the prediction does have a positive effect for whosoever took it seriously, is trying to harmonize their consciousness with the rhythm of the Cosmic.
We cannot continue to live in this state of corruption where money is considered God, Knowledge has been fragmented, Food and water has been tampered with, where our entire perception has been compromised.
It will take a monstrous disaster on this Planet in order for a new beginning to dawn.
We can protest and fight all we want, and still things would remain the same or even worst.
So there might be some positive outcome if 2012 does happens.

2012 is not a year for wondering.....2012 is simply the end my dear friends.
We as a world stemmed in manufacturing and technology would not even wonder or consider an end.......reason being, we are totally selfish in what we perceive as a right to have.
How can we understand how thousands of years ago, many men stood under the stars and watched for patterns. Of course nowadays we just sit in front of televisions and computers and forget patterns of life.
Why cant we sit back and wonder why......Egyptians, Mayans, Kopi Indians, I Ching all come to a conclusion off......in my words......enough of selfishness.....Lets start the 5th world

No offense, but for somebody to state their opinion - in this case, that the year 2012 will not be the end of the world - is hardly trolling. There was a big thread on the difference between trolling and healthy skepticism yesterday. Disagreeing with you is not the same as being a troll. There are dozens upon dozens of threads where people discuss all manner of 2012 scenarios, and if you only want to hear from those who think the sky will fall, you should have no trouble surrounding yourself with like minds.

Also, doing "research" on the subject doesn't mean the same thing as reading other people's speculations. There are some fine scholarly books and websites out there that make the Mayan long-count calendar and other aspects of Mayan science and religion very accessible. I would urge you to seek those out in addition to the "alternative" material on the subject, so that you can form your own opinion, rather than simply finding one you can identify with.

/edit to add: This is not necessarily directed only at you; everyone would do well to learn more about the Mayan long-count calendar and how it really works. Ditto the I Ching, etc.

I think alot of people use the 2012 doomsday theory in order to fill the void of excitement that is missing in there lives. They believe seeing these monstrous tidal waves or blasting solar rays will be just like the movies. The fact is that there is currently no evidence at all to PROVE that 2012 is infact the slightest bit possible. Watch the news as it rolls out in that year, the moment we hear of an earthquake, assasination or military advances in the middle east all of the 2012 believers will be hassling the world and 'warning' everybody that these are the signs of the end, when it'll be nothing new just the same old stories that come in year in and year out just that it'll have more impact on these people because of the year. To anticipate the end of times means you need help.

The calender is representing and end of an age. An ending of this cycle and the beginning of a new. This has happened 4 previous times, and at the end and beginning of the cycles there has always been some kind of event that nearly cause an extinction of all life on earth. So who's to say something wont happen this time. History always repeats itself. As to what we wont know until it either happens or doesn't. But there are to many signs and to many ancient civilizations who have left information pertaining to 2012 that we would be fools not to at least take a better safe than sorry approach. The ego of man kind will ultimately be our undoing.

Here are some facts for you.

1. People are preparing, and not in small ways. We are talking HUGE preparations. Fact.

Even in conditions of global warming, where the permafrost starts to melt, the seeds will be safe for up to 200 years. Some of the seeds will even be viable for a millennium or more, including barley, which can last 2,000 years, wheat 1,700 years, and sorghum almost 20,000 years.

2. We are WAY overdue for a Geomagnetic reversal. Fact.

With the increasingly accurate Global Polarity Timescale (GPTS) it has become apparent that the rate at which reversals occur has varied considerably throughout the past. During some periods of geologic time (e.g. Cretaceous Long Normal), the Earth's magnetic field is observed to maintain a single orientation for tens of millions of years. * Gradual and relatively "slow" but drastic reduction of the world population through economy means such as mass unemployment, leading middle and lower classes to poverty, malnutrition and starvation, through economic and bankruptcy crisises, medical system failure and enormous increase of mortality due to lack of treatments for common lethal diseases.

5. Yup, check, as a matter of fact this is getting worse and more noticable by the day. Fact.

* A global pandemic with very high or even 100% mortality rate caused by a human-made infectious agent, which could be released among population on purpose. The source could be an individual, a laboratory workers group, a terrorist group, governmental or international organization.

Well I dont smell roses its somthing else ,I dont know about you guys but I have plenty of plans for 2013 including a new thread about 2012 and how like a lot of people on here we will be glad to see the back of it,but then again the doomsayers will pick a new year for it all to end and the money making scams of books and dvds etc will continue
