Valentine's Day Corrupts? Share the Love!

On the eve of Valentine's Day, millions of cards are being sent. Flowers are making their way to loved ones and unwitting players of many a tawdry fantasy

Across the world children are sending small notes and cards and just hoping beyond hope that they get a card in return. It's a day when the lonely can only dream and pull the blankets tighter....sigh. For the rest, it's about putting a smile on the face of a loved one and hoping they 'get some' in return. It's a day for celebrating love...

On the other hand, in some places Valentine's Day has been banned or discouraged for corrupting people or leading to hurt feelings...

No cards, contacts, emails, flowers or romance? How can they be 'Acts of Satan!?' Is there anything better than to love and be loved? It's a great feeling to know that someone, somewhere has a 'thing' for you!

Not to be outdone by extremists....some schools have banned Valentine cards in case they lead to hurt feelings or pregnancy.

“We believe that such ideas should wait until children are mature enough emotionally and socially to understand the commitment involved in having or being a boyfriend or girlfriend. Unless they want to be footballers when they grow up, in which case there’s no commitment involved.”

Send some love to a stranger! Send some love to someone you actually care about! Send some to your parents, kids and single friends. It'll make them happy and make YOU feel good. It's cheesy and you know it's right.

I'll be back to normal on Monday and wearing the skeptical, jaded cynic outfit again...promise.

I refuse to celebrate another holiday that involves buying gifts.

I never gat any flowers or chocolate ... hence the bitterness.

I dont care if its commercialism....my gifts have been passed to my fiance already

My wife and I do not celebrate valentine’s days and the only card I will be buying is for my 14 year old daughter who would be very depressed to find that no one has sent her a card.

I tell my wife I love her every day as does she to me and we do not need to shell out money to a parasitical money making scam so that we can feel vindicated in our love for each other by handing over sickly worded and overpriced cards – or boxed chocolates that have just jumped up in price.

Who is surpised by this, really? A group of hate filled, women- hating, egocentric, loathesome terrorists don't beleive in fellowship and love? Hmmmm who would have thought?

Oh I'm way sadder than that ... though I managed to plod through life somehow.

Of course I could buy stuff for someone who's supposed to love me for myself every time some company tells me to do so ... that of course would not be sad.

If people don't "buy into" the holiday (which really isn't a "holiday") but a day created for consumerism... fine. That's great (I don't either) but that's not to say that it isn't a nice idea to stop every once in a while and remember who's important in one's life. Some people (maybe not those here) are too caught up in everyday life to remember to do this, so what's the harm in having a day to remind them? Not advocating spending any money, but I am suggesting that taking some time to devote to the person(s) one cares about is a very good thing. Doesn't cost any money to show your love...

I have no choice but to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

The 12th is my wife’s birthday, of course you have V day on 14th and our anniversary is the 17th, 9 years for us. Of course I either get her one gift or none depending on our spending abilities, but she always sees my love for her.
