The unfortunate thing is most of us are!
More people will take AminoSweet with open arms then there will be people that oppose it.

I had been healthy my whole life until I started drinking sugar free drinks. The sugar free drinks of course had those artificial sweeteners, aspartame and sucralose, in them and my kidneys almost failed because what I found out a little too late is that the artificial sweeteners breakdown into ARSENIC and FORMALDEHYDE in your system and poison you! What is worse is that these artificial sweeteners are in almost every drink and food I find! Although I quit drinking those drinks and now only stick to pure water and pure espresso, this has not helped my kidneys much. Check your labels - it is in everything! I now have had problems with my kidneys for the last 3 years and I don't know if they will ever fully heal.

By the way, I did not find out about what was wrong with my kidneys until I went to an alternative medical clinic where they tested my entire body and gave me a detailed analysis for a mere $40. The conventional doctors I had seen before I went to this place had no answers for me and just wanted to give me some dope to cover up my symptoms.

Thank you for informing us about this changing of product name. I have been avoiding ASPARTAME ever since I read an article about its detrimental effects. For those who might not know it Aspartame is actually a compound of three molecule. [1] Aspartic Acid. This is probably safe because it is a basic amino acid building block of protiens. [2] Phenylalanine. This is a toxin that can kill. That is why the label tells you that it is there. Some people cannot metabolize it out of there body. It is not doing your liver any favours. [3] Methanol. This is certainly a killer. Athletes were killed drinking aspartame because of it. This methanol [a type of alcohol] was the culprit. The liver cannot metabolize it into sugar. It accumulates in the blood and the only way to get rid of it via sweating through the skin. Alcoholics stink of it. It is highly carcinogenic. Lethal.

That aspartame and other artificial sweetners turn into Arsenic [element] and Formaldehyde [molecule] is something that I did not know before. Thank you for telling us about it. These are lethal poisons. My neighbour is seriously ill from her obsession with ingesting these sweeteners. In her case I could even suggest that it is an addiction. I tried to help her to understand but to no effect. In my opinion she is dying and we cannot save her from inevitable death. Literally suicide. The National Health Service seem to be oblivious as to the nature of her illness. Running tests but getting no answers. To me it is obvious. Aspartame poisoning. In you [quotation above] it is in the kidneys but in my neighbour it is in the digestion system and brain. Adding to her aspartame poisoning and clouding it and making it worse is also her alcoholism. A whole bottle of wine per day. 12% alcohol strength. Usually with vodka added too.

Wow, that should be illegal. Completely defeats the purpose of listing the ingredients on food packaging. They could start putting motor oil, prozac and staples in our food and say it contains "peace, love and happiness"!

My uncle in laws father drank a lot diet pepsi, like a litre a day, my fathers best friend drank a lot of pepsi like a litre a day. Ofcourse this is unhealthy, but both developed brain tumours and rest in peace. I was curious and wikipediad it and what do i find but that tests on rats concluded that the phenyl part of the compound caused brain cancer....... thats wierd

Was this stuff banned in the U.S.A or something?

Here in Australia i was about to take my daily berocca(little tablet that dissolves in water and is filled with a collection of vitamins and boasts "no sugars, caffeine or articifical stimulants"), then in small writing it mentions it contains aspartame.

To think i've been drinking this poison for a while now, yuck.

ACTIVIA contains aspertame - head's-up.

My wife bought some to try, being a big believer/follower of Jamie Lee Curtis' dieting habits.

I threw that crap out right away

I see that Blaine91555's last post and mine have both been completely ignored by the Chicken Littles on this thread.

How surprisingly boring hysteria can be--when it is unfounded. This thread is now an unmitigated yawn.

I was trying to lose weight many years ago and started drinking a lot of diet sodas with aspartame and ended up in the hospital. Stopped the aspartame..symptoms disappeared.

It should be taken off the market

Is that when you bought the submarine...? Just kiddin'.

I found an article about aspartame which is mybe interesting for you to read. unfortunately it is on a urban legend page of the site but still.

Here are the first few lines of that article,

Subject: FW: Health information on ASPARTAME
WORLD ENVIRONMENTAL CONFERENCE
and the MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS FOUNDATION
F.D.A. ISSUING FOR COLLUSION WITH MONSANTO

Article written by Nancy Markle (1120197)

I have spent several days lecturing at the WORLD ENVIRONMENTAL CONFERENCE on "ASPARTAME marketed as 'NutraSweet', 'Equal', and 'Spoonful"'. In the keynote address by the EPA, they announced that there was an epidemic of multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus, and they did not understand what toxin was causing this to be rampant across the United States.

Entire article: urbanlegends.about.com...

Here are a few other names used for aspartame and they will probably make some new names to replace them too.

I was a user of Aspartame. But now I am aware of its side-effects. It is such a crappy sweetener. I searched google and hit upon Cid Botanicals manufacturers of Stevia. Though its a little expensive than the rest but it has far more advantages. I am very satisfied with it.

I hate aspartame myself it takes you to be really careful what you buy now they sneak it in were you would never expect it. A headache later I have to backtrack what product got me and sometime products pull a switch on you if you aren't paying attention like one week sugar the next not.

I advise people to be on their guard if they have renamed it once it's probably out there under some other ones as well some probably not very obvious.

So, without lecturing, I recommend going yellow if your going to use a artifical sweetener to begin with...tastes better and no aspartame

I'll lecture for you. Stay away from ALL artificial sweeteners and use stevia.

en.wikipedia.org...

I bought a bottle of Stevia, and that stuff leaves a terrible aftertatse, plus it isn't sweet, it was more bitter to me than anything. Never used it again. >.<

I still stick with saccharin, the amount you have to use to get cancer from it is obscene, and not by any stretch of the imganiation how much I use.

The product I use is a liquid called Fasweet. I buy it straight from the manufacturer by the case (12 bottles), and the shipping is free. I get about a case a year.

It can also be used in cooking and baking, which most other artificial sweetners cannot.

I never trusted Splenda, it is chlorinated sugar molecules. All the other sweeteners, I stayed away from after it made my kids psychotic. I was buying them sugar free drinks with Nutrasweet, and had to detox them from it after they had extreme behaviour problems.

I do buy a few pre-packaged products that use Splenda, however, but only rarely. One is sugar free ketchup from Heinz, and the other is sugar free baby gerkin sweet pickles and sweet relish. Three things as a diabetic I could just not give up.

Occasionally I will buy sugar alcohol from the health food store, it looks like sugar, but it has a really bad side effect if you use very much. First is excessive gas *blush* and if you consume a little more, it has an extreme laxative effect. That is exactly the only reason I use sugar alcohols.

Sugar alcohols are the best for baking and candy making, but you must consume only small, SMALL quantities if you are going to be in public.
This is also what is in all sugar free candies that are name brands, like Hersheys Chocolates.

Sugar alcohols can also affect some diabetics blood sugar, but it has been explained to me this is akin to a false positive. If you are watching your glucose though, it can be very scary to eat something with sugar alcohol and then take a reading. Some diabetics are not affected by it at all.

I just stand strongly convinced for people that must avoid all sugars due to diabetes, that saccharin is the lesser of all evils. To get cancer from it, you have to consume the equivalent of, I think 600 cans of diet soda a day. It was injected directly into the lab rats bloodstream. Anything in that amount would give you cancer.

It is all about moderation.

If I were to ask you to produce a single peer reviewed published study showing aspartame to be a health risk at levels even higher than could be reasonably consumed; you would not be able to. Why, because none exist. Only studies by people of questionable repute or in some cases sanity can be pointed out.

Go ahead and flame me now. Have fun. You can't prove me wrong though. Those paranoid of their health are the easiest targets for con games

You can do a study yourself. Buy a case of diet soda sweetened with aspartame. Drink a can every 2 months. Eventually you'll notice the taste getting more and more repulsive. This is due to to the aspartame breaking down into toxins.

The FDA first approved aspartame for dry use only:

Aspartame Timeline

July 26, 1974-- The FDA grants aspartame its first approval for restricted use in dry foods.

Personally, based on my own research, that's probably where the approval should have stopped. I rarely use artificial sweeteners anymore, but I really don't think aspartame in its dry form is that risky to use in small amounts. I don't use Equal to sweeten my coffee but I wouldn't be afraid to do so.

Regarding soda or Aspartame in liquids, probably if you drink the soda within a few days of coming off the production line it's pretty safe. But depending on how it's stored (how long and at what temperature) before you drink it, it could pose a health risk.

I don't need a double blind study from a multinational corporation to tell me the taste of diet soda degrades over time, anyone who has stored diet soda for any length of time in a warm environment can tell you about this degradation.

July 1, 1983-- The National Soft Drink Association (NSDA) urges the FDA to delay approval of aspartame for carbonated beverages pending further testing because aspartame is very unstable in liquid form. When liquid aspartame is stored in temperatures above 85 degrees Fahrenheit, it breaks down into DKP and formaldehyde, both of which are known toxins.

July 8, 1983-- The National Soft Drink Association drafts an objection to the final ruling which permits the use of aspartame in carbonated beverages and syrup bases and requests a hearing on the objections. The association says that Searle has not provided responsible certainty that aspartame and its' degradation products are safe for use in soft drinks.

I considered it a big advance for public safety when Pepsi at least started putting expiration dates on it's aspartame sweetened soda, and others followed.

So I wouldn't worry too much about dry aspartame, I don't see a problem with it. Liquid aspartame, may be ok if you consume it right away and never store it above 85 degrees. But where you can't guarantee liquid aspartame is stored below 85 degrees and consumed quickly after leaving the production facility, I'd avoid it, and personally, I do.

I wonder if it still has to be labeled as containing Phenylalanine ?

That is what I always look for on packages....Its always in bold Print after the list of ingredients. Some people can not process this Amino and it makes them really sick, so they have to list it....

I hope this is still the case..... Look at all the mainstream gum... all but Big red has it. I am sickened that they are now calling it Aminosweet.

Yes of course, it doesn't have any less Phenylalanine since they changed the name. The warning says "phenylketonurics: contains phenylalaine" so it implies that the warning is only for phenylketonurics. I wasn't even sure what that was until i looked it up but I guess if you were one, you would probably know it because your doctor would have told you after running some blood tests.

But as far as I know I'm not a phenylketonuric, so I don't have to worry about that warning since it's not addressed to me, right?
