BY AVERAGE JOES STANDARD the LRO images are pure and utter "word that begins with s."

are you happy with my description now??!? god. you people always argue FOR nasa the f.

Could you expand on your idea that the images from this website:
wms.lroc.asu.edu...
are "crap"? Can you explain this a bit more?

It seems to me that having the ability to zoom into a boulder filed and resolve rocks the size of a small to medium-sized dog is pretty fantastic.

Albeit, those pictures in the OP were from a much higher altitude, but accordingly the LRO pictures have a much greater resolution. The only time you get the "scan lines" on the LRO pics is when you attempt to zoom waaayyyy in tight -- such as when viewing the Apollo flag pole. However, after all, it's a flag pole!.

Otherwise, the pictures that show objects 1 meter or more in diameter -- and are not zoomed in way beyond the limits -- are very sharp and very clear.

So, what is your issue with LRO?

If only we could get these resolutions in those Moon images!

We are getting much better resolution images than that from LRO. Have you seen the images of the Apollo landers? They are about the size of a pickup truck. Do you see any trucks or cars in the images from ISS?

You can't see the cites and bridges on the Moon because there aren't any. No snow capped mountains either.

Nice photo shoped version of nasa

I can tell the difference, since NASA might be using something different, but i bet they work in the same areas as photoshop

What?

Where are all the 'compression artifacts'?

Aren't compression artifacts inherent in all photos taken from space?

But try convincing Exuberant1, easynow, mikesingh, John Lear et al!!
The Moon's covered with bridges, towers, glass domes and so on! Don't believe me? Just check out any of their threads and you'll know what I'm talking about!

You are an average joe and you know nothing about photography we have people here asking for HD cameras to be used etc, well the HD spec for TV'S is 1920x 1080 pixels best result from a film camera is about 5300x4000 pixels thats how a film shot years ago can end up on a Blu-ray.
The LRO pics are at about 0.5 mtrs per pixel so the Golden Gate bridge is 4200ft between towers or 1280 mtrs at 0.5 mtrs per pixel on the Astronauts shot it would need to be 2560 pixels long between the towers, the spec for Nikon camera used max res 4288 x 2848 the pictures shown are either cropped or resized they are 700x468 so NOT AS GOOD as the LRO pics!
Zoom in on pics on LRO site and see some real detail!!
