Shortcut - Short Film

Hi ATS.

Just hoping some of you will watch a short film, Shortcut, that I worked on recently. I'm not trying to promote it for any kind of commercial gain or anything like that (I know that is against the T&C anyway :] ), I'm just proud of the final result and would like to share it with you all here. It was made on nearly a $0 budget, but we made up for what we lacked in money with dedication.

We are hoping that this amateur start will lead into some more work in the industry. I have already scored a gig on a low-budget zombie film starting next week so that alone made the effort worth while. Any future projects we make will be show to you all as well Enjoy.

This thread will fade into obscurity now, but before it does I just wanted to thank anyone who took the 8 minutes out of their lives to watch the film, it is very much appreciated.

Next project has been OK'd be the producer, so it will begin development sometime in the next few months. It is a post-apocalyptic story focusing on the darker side of human nature when faced with a lawless society. You guys will be among the first to see it when it is done. Thanks again

Thanks for that film fooffstarr. I too am working in "the industry" in many applications. I went from being a lowly background extra to associate producer, musical director, bit player, production assistant, script writing team in 2.5 years. And now forming my own production company to make short films for festivals along with working for other producers on feature films. ex....www.autumnharvestmovie.com...

I imagine that the many opportunities that this offers to be creative must be a driving force for you and others who seek careers along this line.

Thanks for the reply Yeah I'll check it all out, and good luck with all future projects of your own.

It is such a tough thing to get in to, especially here in Australia where the industry bodies proudly display favoritism to the same directors / producers over and over again and laugh at the possibility of funding anything that isn't overly 'ocker' or arty. The chances of getting funding to work on a horror / thriller / crime film in this country are zero to none unless you seek out investors yourself.

Luckily for me I am in partnership with an amazing producer who is willing to help get projects like these off the ground so that we can inject some original content into the Australian film industry. I was 1st AD on Shortcut, the above film, and am going to be directing the next project myself so fingers crossed for a good result.

You hit the nail on the head pretty much. I have been fighting to get into this field so that I'd have a chance to showcase my ideas and express myself and it has, so far, been a hugely rewarding process. Thing is, you can't make a living off it. Not at this stage anyway.

Perhaps we should get a mod to rename it 'Films members are in and/or working on' or something? Make it open to everybody.

And wow... the cinematography in that trailer is beautiful.
