NASHVILLE - Organizers of the National Tea Party Convention said yesterday that participants would form a political action committee aimed at electing up to 20 candidates this fall who adhere to conservative principles embraced by the grass-roots movement. The PAC, Ensuring Liberty Corp., will give money and resources to candidates who advocate fiscal responsibility, less government, lower taxes, states’ rights, and strong national security, convention spokesman Mark Skoda said. Skoda, who heads the Memphis Tea Party, said he would serve on the board of the PAC, which will be organized as a nonprofit based in Memphis. He declined to identify other leaders of the committee. “This is a way by which people who have worked so hard thus far in the rallies, whose voices have not been heard, will be able to participate with their talents and their treasures - and ultimately ensure that the people are elected,’’ Skoda said. “We’re not attempting to co-opt’’ the Republican National Committee, he added. The news of the PAC marks the first concrete national strategy from the tea party movement, which began last year in opposition to President Obama’s policies and is made up of hundreds of disparate groups and by design has no national leadership. About 600 tea party leaders arrived Thursday in Nashville for their three-day convention. Organizers were energized by signs that the political climate may be shifting in their favor and were eagerly awaiting the arrival of former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, who was expected to address the group tomorrow night. -- Washington Post

Personally, I think it's a mix of genuine Patriots, and then there are the complete whackos. What I find most objectionable, is how some people can support this Party as better than the corruption that exists, and support the newly added foreign influx into the elective process as free speech. I don't deny your right to feel that way, or elect these clowns, I will champion both.

Here is where I see a problem. Who are the leaders? Brown was supposed to be some kind of anti-Obama, turns out he's just a Republican.

Bachman backed out, Sarah Palin is right there. Sarah Palin! Tom Tancredo?

I can't wait to hear her speech. Tom already gave us an earful.

Who is going to elect the next POTUS? You think you are?

All I did was point out the obvious.
You and your crew conveniently ignore it.

It’s real Endisnighe. You have described yourself as an out of work Mechanic.
Now, if you were pulling down a 1%’r income I could see your point of view.
But somehow you totally miss that if your dreams come true, and the whole elected body, were replaced with “Patriots”. These Patriots will have been put in office by me, and the other 2% controlling the money, not you. Bought and paid for legally.

You will be one of the disappointed ones. When OBE says there is no equality, that means you Endisnighe. He’s not talking about you personally but what he’s saying is, if I’m more intelligent, and have some money, I can do what I want, with no regard to how it impacts you indirectly.

So if my factory leaks toxins into your water table, tough on you. Move.
If my eyes are offended when I drive by your House, I can buy some legislature to move you off your property. In that world you are not only lower caste, but toast.

I watched a speech from Nashville last night by James Farah, editor of world net daily. The guy is one hell of a speaker. There are an unfortunate number of issues that I would NOT trust the tea partiers with, especially their ideals of "morality" and strong national defense. Don;t they know war spending is what put us here?
On the other hand they have some appeal, they seem to be common sense oriented and the thing I like the most about them is their adherence to the Constitution.
Are they the new 3 rd party? I don't think so but they may have heavy influence in republican circles, we'll see.

I think that any attempts to affix labels on the Tea Party at this time are a mistake. The movement is too new yet.

It actually is an exciting time for the Tea Party: they have a rough outline of where they want to go, but no clear leaders to lead them yet. The trip will be bumpy and fun!

One thing for sure - they will never adopt the socialist agenda.

Whoa Ziggy.....I think you took my assertions on equality out of context to fit your argument. Also in a different subject matter at that.

I will apply it to your argument above. When I say equality, I speak of equal protection under the law. Given that, there is an amount of equality as a baseline. Equality in the sense that we have laws that regulate certain activities.

There are good laws and bad laws in those regulations. A good law is a company cannot dump toxic waste into a river with no consequence or concern. That is equality as every company shall abide by that regulation.

When I speak of equal protection under the law, I speak that no company should get a pass on such a regulation. Thus the equal protection is broken and circumvented.

While it is true that there is no guarantee that people will obtain equal stature, whether by wealth, ability or intelligence, there should be a guarantee that we all are held to the same rules and standards. Thus we are all equal in the hands of the laws.

Ones ability over another give them no greater standing in eyes of the law. They may have more resources to obtain better defense or a nicer suit, but it does not grant them special access to a different set of laws to abide by and held accountable to.

Unfortunately in recent times the term "Strong National Defense" has be convoluted to fit the war machine.

A nation can have a strong national defense while not engaging in wars around the world

It also is dependent upon how one views defense. Some say the best defense is a strong offense. While other say a strong defense is one that solely is defensive.

I believe we have swung far into the strong offense notion and are now far beyond it.

A good mix of a solid defense is just that. You protect your Nation's interests and allies while ensuring you are capable of meeting any aggressor equally or to a greater extent.

The protection of a Nation's interests should have the respect of others sovereignty and should never encroach unless they have threatened via force that interest.

That is my view on that.
