This reminds me of the day I stopped my habit of
reading the mail before getting in the shower.
I'd always done it, I would sit with a warm wooly
towel about me, a large steaming mug of chocolate
on the vanity table and the radio playing old tunes
softly nearby.
The steam from the shower would be billowing out
and I would be lost to the world... just a boy in a
towel, I suppose!
Then I would read through all the junk mail, the bills
and the letters from 'Saucy Cyril'... a guy I correspond
with. He always brings a smile to my face.
Then the doorbell rang and after switching the shower off
and binding the towel tighly around my hermaphrodite-like
bod, I raced to the front door to see who it was.
It was the mailman... he had a large package for me
and after trying to jam the parcel in my letter-box, he had
decided not to bend it somemore and leave in near the
rosebushes, but ring the bell.
He stood there looking really sad, as the last of the Autumn
leaves blew around his feet... lost and alone.
I was grateful and I thanked him. He smiled tightly and
turned to go.
As he clambered into his shiny van, I realised that I had
a bar of 'Snickers' near the door on a small antique table,
I had bought from Walmart.
I thought it would cheer him up.
I called to him, waving said confectionary and stepped
out as he revved his engine... that was my mistake.
My front door slammed shut in the strong breeze and I just
stood there, my Snickers in one hand and the mysterious
package in the other.
What was a gir...boy... I to do?
Well, it's quite a long yarn... too long for here, but needless
to say, I stopped showering in the afternoon, while reading
the mail, it causes too many problems.
And of course, that old guy across the road with 'Special
Forces' tattoo won't speak to me now.
