PODcast:

Slapster

A little instrumental funk/fusion/rock tune testing out my new Yamaha MM6 keyboard. While not anywhere near a full blown Motif, it has some decent sounds and some cool features like an arpeggiator- which I used to play that slap bass line. The rest is tweaking and guitars. Thinking about adding some sax in the breakdown section.

Thanks for posting this, did the guitars come from a MM6 arp or did you lay it down with a real guitar. Also, did they include the remix feature in the MM6?

Real guitars. A 90 model strat+ with the lace sensors, running through a POD 1.0, to be exact. Of course I wish I had a nice rig (amp) for it, but I don't. So I make do.

I doubt that remix feature is in the MM6, and really it's ok because I use software on a DAW for all composition/sequencing/mixing: Cubase/Nuendo. The MM6 is pretty stripped down compared to a Motif, but has some nice sounds- those are all MM6 drums by the way, as I haven't gotten around to putting down real drums on it yet.

Really nice work! I think your guitar playing is excellent. Look forward to hearing more music from you. That yamaha has some very good sounds in it, money well spent. Gj!

Thanks, been at it a while, but I am more really a drummer. Cutting real drum tracks is such a PITA, though. Getting a part isn't as hard for me as getting great sounds on them when I don't have the great mics, the great pre's, great processing, and the toughest- the great room.

But yeah, pretty happy with the Yamaha MM6 for what it is. Thanks for your reply.

Almost reminds me of Jan Hammer's Beyond The Mind's Eye.
