Kwame Nkarumah-Acheampong, the first-ever Ghanaian to ski in the Olympics, will drive next week from Mount Washington, where he has trained on Canadian snow these past few days, to Whistler, where he'll have to prove his mettle on the slopes. The final destination of the spacious cinnamon Ford Flex, emblazoned with images of the 35-year-old slalom and giant slalom competitor, will signal the end of an amazing journey to the Games that the island community has done its part to boost. They've rallied around the unlikely winter athlete, who hails from a hot, snow-deprived country and qualified for the Games after taking up skiing just six years ago.
