Heroin and Anthrax - Homocide or fate?

When the story first broke the victims were all Scots, and I thought that it was probably someone having buried a 'stash' of heroin on one of the little scottish islands (Gruinard Island) the MOD had used for testing anthrax back in ww2.

However, the island, quarantined for 44 years, was 'decontaminated' back in 1986, and declared safe in 1990.

So is it possible that the Island isn't safe, and somebody has been inadverantly adulterating their H supply? Remember you read it hear first!

As horrific as this sounds, consider the alternative - somebody is deliberately setting about murdering heroin users. Given that the CIA (very active in Afghanistan, the worlds 'heroin basket') are accused of, and have, indeed, seemingly been caught partaking of 'drug dealing', its a truly chilling prospect and a nightmare gamble every time an addict needs a 'hit'.

So far 18 people have contracted Anthrax in Scotland, 9 are dead, with a further fatality in Germany.

Now, whatever your stance on drug use, if there is any evidence that this is a deliberate attack, the question then becomes, 'who will be the next targets'?

Consider - it wouldn't necessarily be other types of drug users, any group could be vulnerable.

Obviously this would depend on the perpetrator - but consider, if this was an Islamic fundamentalist agenda, then alcohol would be just as viable a target.

If it was animal rights extremists (known for their breaking into laboratories), then it could be animal products targeted.

It seems like we need to know where both the Heroin and the Bacterium are originating from (both identifiable with analysis), to begin finding some answers.

Personally I really, really hope some dope buried dope on Gruinard Island, and the decontamination isn't what it should be.

Any thoughts or up-to date leads on this story most welcome!

Ok, well, guess I tried - didnt mean to hijack your debate doc, and don't really see why it should be in the drugs forum, after all its the poison that matter, not the vector. (cant find the substances forum either!)
