A new stealth fighter has made its maiden flight in Russia's far east.

It looks like Russia is showing off lits muscles again. This aircraft was developed in conjunction with India.

Do you guys at ATS think that the Russians are attempting to rebuild their military to its former glory and if so, to what aim?

I would like to hear the opinions of the members here as I tend to think that they are trying to show the world that they are still a world power to be reckonded with.

The Russian Air-Force cannot continue to use the relatively archaic Su-27S forever. The F-22, F-35, JAS-39, Eurofighter, Rafale and even its own Su-27 based aircraft that Russia is exporting, are all far superior to the original Su-27S. Their current aircraft are aging, and as technology progresses, so does military hardware. It does not constitute muscle flexing because they cannot be expected to fly or export 25 year old aircraft forever, nor can they update its current fleet without flying the aircraft for the first time.

I think this may be more of a reply to the planned F-15 Silent Eagle that we plan on exporting more than trying to match up to our topline fighters.

I don't know about their "former glory" levels.
They are simply doing what any power does. that's Upgrading it's defense systems. As many here at ATS already know, Defense sales equals big money.

The PAK FA program has existed for far longer than the F-15 Silent Eagle. As for trying to match either the F-35, or F-22, I don't think the PAK FA is in direct competition to either.

I meant the "public" display and announcement. I am well aware of the PAK-Fa's tenure. The U.S. is lobbying the SE heavily to countries and Russia maybe trying to say "HEY LOOK , we finally got it working!"
