So my husband is a member of a forum called GON(Gerogia outdoor news) where they talk about hunting, fishing, politics, equipment and stuff like that. There is a thread on his site talking about an open carry day possibly on Prisidents day Feb. 15,2010. They are not talking about a rally or get together or anything like that, just openly carrying your firearm doing your normal routine to stand up for our second amendment rights. I thought I'd pass it along to see if anyone else might be interested in expressing these rights provided it is legal in your area (and your legally able to do so ie., permit)and maybe make it more of a national event.

The purpose of this would not be to stir up any trouble, its simply a way of educating and reminding people of our second amendment right to bear arms.
Here is a link to the GON post.

Please feel free to spread this around if you want.

Mods please feel free to move this thread if its not in the right board. Thanks

Yeah right. We have a long way to go. Didn't a guy just recently carrying a umbrella cause a panic. This society has been brainwashed into thinking that only police should have guns.

I carry my AR-15 with me everywhere ( in the truck behind the seat)and I get flack from friends. They are sheep still, been trying to wake them up ,loosing hope.

Good Idea , but it needs to be done everyday.

This society has been brainwashed into thinking that only police should have guns.

Thats kinda the point of the whole thing. Educate people, make them under stand that yes every day citizens have guns, carry guns and own guns. We are not military, we are not police, we are not criminals, we are not crazy conspiricy theorists that want to go shooting federal buildings. We are moms, we are dads, we are grandfathers and grandmothers. We are construction workers, teachers, cashiers, waitrrs and waitresses, we are American citizens, it is legal and we are excercising our right to do so legally.

There are laws on where you cannot carry a gun openly. I would check your state laws and find out the facts before you carry in the wrong place, like a school when you pick up the children.

I like guns, but I have to say this: it's akin to taping a hundred condoms to your outfit, just to demonstrate to the world that you like safe s3x. Just as silly.

I may be a liberal but I want to join in. Do check your local laws first. Don't try and buy ammo wearing your gun in a place where they sell alcohol. This action cause my cousin to be tackled by cops. Also, please do not shoot me just because I have long hair.

Being "liberal" you should be all for them for everyone. When exactly "liberal" got all twisted up into cutting off your own hands for safety and this nanny state crap I have no idea.

Talk about newspeak. Here come the "liberals" to censor what you say with crap like the fairness doctrine and to disarm everyone because dagnabit you guys just cant be trusted.

On topic, I'm all for open carry. The only reason open carry may have the adverse affect of freaking people out is because theyve already been trained with the slave mind. If you find it encouraging at all just remember we were free a lot longer than we've been slaves. This whole "fear guns" nonsense is barely as old as I am. Freedom is much older than that.

Those of us that are avid carriers, will most likely not be participating, in this.
I do not have the desire to draw attention to myself and/or have needless hassles from law inforcement.
I always carry! Its just not open.
To open caryy, while having a CCW is kinda like saying HEY I'm not all here, the elevator stopped just short of my neck, so I am carrying my weapon in plane site...not smart IMO..
This could in theory, make keeping my/your CCW not something you would be allowed to re-new, if you get what I'm saying.

I think it all depends on where you are ......here in the country it is normal to see guns in the back of the truck or at any house,... not sure it would go over so good now in the city where parnoia abounds.

The 2nd amendment in conjuction with the supremacy clause rightfully nullifies any such laws.

"Shall not be infringed" leaves little room for interpretation.

Just watched the Chris Matthews clip in the OP. Occasionally he comes out with something I like, but here he just looks like a belligerant idiot windbag.

The New Hampshire man schooled him hard. He remained unruffled and evidenced pretty sharp and nimble thinking on his feet in the face of Matthew's embarrasing verbal onslaught. Go New Hampshire!

I live in a state where Open Carry is legal. However, I have yet to see anyone in my area actually carry openly. Like it was mentioned earlier people would probably over react to the situation. It all depends on how you present yourself. Full camo and a tactical leg drop may get you the attention you are not looking for.

You have to know the the laws before you go out in public. Read the following article to see how the police harassed a man for legally carrying in the open. This situation occurred in a city not far from where I live.

Tuesday evening, Bill Carlisle went to a Parma Taco Bell while openly carrying a firearm, a legal activity in Ohio. As he was leaving, he was detained by Parma police and spent approximately 20 minutes waiting for it to be cleared up and eventually released.

During the course of the stop, Carlisle repeatedly plead his case that open carry is legal and that simply carrying a gun was not cause to be detained. The police officers on the scene offered up numerous scenarios and explanations while waiting to hear back from a supervisor whether or not he had broken any laws. One such reasoning for the stop was simply that it was unusual, and that had this been Alaska, there would have been no problem. Carlisle captured the incident on tape.

When listening to the recording, pay attention to the numerous hypothetical situations the police used to justify their stop, all the while having no idea whatsoever if open carry was actually legal or not. Apparently, ignorance of the law is an excuse, if you're on the right side of the badge...
