.45's make a good sidearm to go with a long range rifle. When I attend a sidearm/rifle tournament at the gun club i use a 30-06 and a .45. The .45 is accurate enough for targets up to 75 yds, yet small enough for close quarters aiming. While the 30-06 is very competitive from 75 yds to 300+ yds.

I am also a 2 time winner of the sidearm/rifle tournament.

For several reasons the .45ACP has been my favorite caliber for quite some time, esspecially in the Hk pistols like the USP and Mk23 pistols, but I always had a thing for the venerable 1911.

But in a combat situations i'd pick the .40cal any day, the ammo is cheaper and fire at higher velocity, is just as much a man stopper as the .45 and less recoil.

The .45 is there if you need a round that will make sure the target is neutralized.

Yeah but you don't have the stopping power with a 9mm. If you want a lighter gun to carry but still want the stopping power, go for the GLock .40 S&W it's light and has plenty of stopping power..
