Aurora Mystery Solved?

news.discovery.com

On Jan. 20, 2010, Per-Arne Mikalsen was photographing a vast aurora erupting over the northern Norwegian town of Andenes.

Because solar activity is on the increase, aurora spotters have many opportunities to see the Northern Lights. On this particular night the aurora was intense, stretching toward the southern latitudes of Norway.

In one of the photographs taken by Mikalsen was an "object" that couldn't be identified. Although Mikalsen had taken several images at the same location, just one photo showed a mysterious green parachute-like object hanging with the main aurora. (This time

This is a cool explanation of the Aurora "parachute phenomena" Please read the article and include any observations you have here. Is this just some kind of "put off"? or could we chalk this off as solved? I personally think this phenomena can not be explained by normal understanding and I do think it extraterrestrial in nature but I'll keep to my beliefs and open this up for discussion.

I posted this article yesterday afternoon:

Then someone else posted it again last night:

For whatever reason, the 2nd one is the one everyone is discussing this topic in. So, you may want to shift over to that one.

I would say that it is most likely an effect created by the camera lens itself. At first I was leaning towards an Upper Atmospheric coagulation of ice crystals, but then I realized the area of the anomaly around the "Parachute" is in a rather perfect circle (Which is akin to the shape of a camera lens).

However, if it is not the camera lens, then I admit that a perfect circle is possible when viewing halos around the Moon (When ice crystals are properly situated in the atmosphere). Therefore, if it is not the camera's effect, I would still stick with the ice crystal explanation (It should be noted that people scattered about the globe have reported for quite some time now, that they have in fact witnessed Auroras coming all the way down to the ground level, and others have in fact heard the sound of it (Electrical static type buzzing) ). If portions of this Aurora were extending below their normal ALT levels of the Upper Atmosphere, they could have very easily interacted with moisture contained therein.
