Halliburton is asking the Supreme Court to overturn a lower courts ruling and block a woman's lawsuit alleging she was raped by military contract co-workers in Iraq.

Halliburton Asks High Court to Block Trial

Halliburton Co. is asking the Supreme Court to block a Texas woman's lawsuit alleging she was raped by military contractor co-workers in Iraq.

The company wants the justices to reverse a lower court ruling that Jamie Leigh Jones' case can go to trial. Jones sued Halliburton and its former subsidiary KBR, saying she was raped while working for KBR at Camp Hope, Baghdad, in 2005.

The trial is set to begin in February 2011.

Halliburton says the contract signed by Jones and other workers requires claims to be settled through arbitration, not trial.

The case is KBR Technical Services v. Jones, 09-864 for those that want to delve for more history.

For those that are not aware - this is has been a very high profile (and horrible) case thus far.

A bit of history..

Victim: Gang-Rape Cover-Up by U.S., Halliburton/KBR

A Houston, Texas woman says she was gang-raped by Halliburton/KBR coworkers in Baghdad, and the company and the U.S. government are covering up the incident.

Jamie Leigh Jones, now 22, says that after she was raped by multiple men at a KBR camp in the Green Zone, the company put her under guard in a shipping container with a bed and warned her that if she left Iraq for medical treatment, she'd be out of a job.

I truly hope that justice is served in this. Rare for me to rant on here - but this is just shameful, it makes me feel sick that they would try to block the trial.

Disgusting. I read about this case a while back, thanks for the update.

Halliburton basically threw her into a cargo container for about a day after she was raped and the only reason she got out was because a guard let her use his cellphone and she called her family who called their congressman who raised holy hell with the company.

Haliburton didn't throw her into a cargo container some people working for them did , now if you can find any documents stating Haliburton policy
stating that all rape victims shall be thrown into shipping containers and threatened with being fired if you seek medical attention then you have a case .

You can read her testimony before congress at..

TESTIMONY OF JAMIE LEIGH JONES (pdf)

If she really made it all up - why would they be so afraid of a trail?

this is disgusting. i remember this case. i do hope the supreme court rules in her favor. with scalia, alito, thomas, roberts, i seriously doubt she will get justice.

poster up above. no, halliburton's policy was not for her to be gang raped. however, they did try to cover this up by throwing her into the container and then for her not to attempt to have them prosecuted.

I have read the entire PDF and I almost feel that I wish for Marie A. O'Rourke an evening with the men with the same kind of refreshments that Jamie Leigh Jones suffered only longer with a more companionship. It sickens me to think this way but for a woman like Marie to sandbag Jamies claim makes me wish that she could know the horror and the medical hassles along with the feeling of helplessness that comes from the lack of support that the American government showed Jamie. My reason for this idea so that Marie could learn from her mistakes and not let another future victim to suffer as Jamie had. What is happening to the American government and the people who represent it and how can America be the worlds police officer when America no longer knows the difference between right and wrong. I am really upset by this, makes me feel ashamed for serving in the US armed services. Sorry for the rant but this is the first I have heard of Jamies plight and I can only wish for Marie to have a long evening with the people she is protecting so that she would know the proper way of dealing with the next victim!

For Jamie Leigh Jones my heart goes out to her and hope that she can find a way to forgive her country who has let her down so greatly and that she can heal and move own. It will take a long time and I hope for her to find an understand partner that will help her recovery as she must feel really alone with despair

Just from what I've seen, and read on a lot of websites, justice will not be on her side.

The unfortunate result will be the lawsuit being dismissed.

People will rally to Ms. Jones, politicians included, but the it will do no good.

Big Money wins everytime.
