Venezuela, Bolivia and Nicaragua say the US is using the international relief operation in Haiti as a cover-up for a military takeover.

Bolivian President Evo Morales said that he will request an emergency UN meeting to reject what he calls the US military occupation of Haiti. "

It's not right that the United States should use this natural disaster to invade and militarily occupy Haiti," Morales told a press conference on Wednesday. "If you have all these problems with the injured and the dead from the earthquake, you have to go there to save lives, and you don't do that from a military standpoint," he added.

An outspoken critic of US policies, Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez also had accused Washington of occupying Haiti "under the guise of the natural disaster."

Nicaragua also has taken a similar stance toward US with respect to the situation in Haiti.

The United States is deploying up to 20,000 troops to Haiti. US servicemen have taken control of the country's international airport.

The Pentagon has sent one of its biggest aircraft carriers to Haiti, along with other navy and coast guard vessels. On Friday, Arturo Valenzuela, the US assistant secretary of state for Western hemisphere affairs rejected that the US was occupying Haiti.

"Haiti is a sovereign country, everybody respects Haiti's sovereign country, the United States respects Haiti's sovereignty," said Arturo Valenzuela.

These guys are nuts or what?
it would be much easier to stay off shore and let them die and occupy them later, no troops needed.

The Pentagon sent one of its biggest aircraft carriers to occupy a country begging and praying God to be occupied by any country even Dominican Republic?

'cmon!!!

Technically speaking they are right in one aspect. It is an occupation of sorts. When you consider that the Haitian Government is for all practical purposes DEAD.

Why am I not surprised to see Hugo and Co listed.

They should be very careful they might be next to get a 7.8

Say "Hello!" to the 51st state.

Obama has already granted amnesty to the Haitian immigrants who were here illegally.

The scary thing?

Mexico is more prone to earthquakes than Haiti. If a big one hits Mexico, guess who'll be granted amnesty, as well.

Well I don"t think it is all that crazy as the US has occupied Haitia before from 1915-1934

US Occupation of Haitia

Under interventionist policies of the early 20th century, President Woodrow Wilson sent the United States Marines into Haiti to restore order and maintain political and economic stability in the Caribbean after the assassination of the Haitian President in July of 1915. This occupation continued until 1934.

The United States Government had been interested in Haiti for decades prior to its occupation. As a potential naval base for the United States and other imperialist powers, Haiti?s stability was of great interest to U.S. diplomatic and defense officials who feared instability might result in foreign rule of Haiti. In 1868, President Andrew Johnson suggested the annexation of the island of Hispaniola, made up of Haiti and the Dominican Republic, to secure a U.S. defensive and economic stake in the West Indies. From 1889 to 1891, Secretary of State James Blaine unsuccessfully sought a lease of Mole-Saint Nicolas, a city on Haiti?s northern coast strategically located for a naval base. In 1910 President William Howard Taft granted Haiti a large loan in hopes that Haiti could pay off its international debt, thus lessening foreign influence. The attempt proved futile due to the enormity of the debt and the internal instability of the country.

First the sent in the 82 Airborne, followed by a Battle Cruiser and a Aircraft Carrier. Then they took over Haiti 3 Major Airports all in the name of Aid. Looks like an Occupation to me. Also the 51st state is Israel, get it right Darth.
