In early December I noticed quite a bit of action around Rachel. Across from the A Le Inn there were gravel hauling trucks parked and they had some large mounds of gravel piled around the other side of the Inn. The small gravel pit near the Rachel was busy with activity. It is now quite large. They are really hauling some serious loads of gravel. I have heard from local residents in Rachel that the trucks are dropping some of the gravel off for the farmers and ranchers to help maintain their roads, but the vast majority of the trucks loads are heading into the restricted area through the Rachel Gate to Area 51. It is obvious with the pictures I have posted in the other thread that they have paved the road from the warning signs at GLR to the guard shack. What other roads are being paved? Why are is there this activity at this time? Is there a new project coming and they are expecting more traffic? There seems to be quite a few more cars in the parking lot in Alamo as well. One day in Jan. I counted 17 cars. That is a lot. On a Sat. in Dec. I counted 7. That was a lot. Usually there is nobody there on the weekends. Anybody have any ideas or thoughts?
