I've not heard of or thought of that idea before but it seems obvious now. Our environment occasionally detroys most complex organisms but our intelligence may enable us to protect ourselves and enough other species or at least travel to another suitable planet.

At the current rate we will end up destroying ourselves before the next natural ELE. I wonder what Mother Nature will come up with next time if we do?
