The Best Hole Punch Cloud Pics

Howdy, I was looking through the usual suspects and noticed this phenomena known as "Punch Hole Clouds" as far as I can tell there is no definitive answer to what they are actually are, thought it should be noted they have been explained, albeit as two separate things...

In any case they look pretty awesome so I figured I'd put the coolest ones up....











Now popular theory is that they are formed by aircraft breaking through the clouds, but how would that account for the perfect circular shape and the twin holes?

The given explanation is that such holes are formed when the water temperature in the clouds is below freezing but the water has not frozen yet due to the lack of ice nucleation particles. This one actually makes a lot of sense, although the differences in opinions is pretty funny considering how sure both sides are of how it happens...

Still not really a conspiracy considering both explanations are very likely but just in case someone does see something similar to one of these now you know it's probably not a Alien Invasion.

MODS: Please feel free to move anywhere BTS might be best but given the different opinions on what they are it still leaves some room for speculation, no?

I posted a like wise explination when those youtube videos of the clouds over russia having the same shape.

For picture embed, the photos must be uploaded to the ats web site to show up. For some reason ATS dosent allow hotlinking to other websites photos. Not sure if its in there security settings or they are against the bandwidth stealing, but it would make photo shareing a lot easyier if they did.
