Two Minute Hate

It often occurs to me, after reading 1984, that we have a form of 2 minute hate as well. Not necessarily the government doing it, but mostly talk show hosts it seems.

A caller will call in, say something against the talk show host or against the government, and the conservative talk show host, will in turn go crazy.

Just today i heard a guy (local, i forget his name) ranting and raving about Islam. "They are gonna put a burka (sp?) on your wife! on your daughter! on your niece! Are you gonna let that happen?" "No!" "We must stop this evil-ness" --- something to that extent. Now, it got some people fired up about Islam, hating it, just like in the book 1984.

Now i thought it was really stupid because, obviously, Muslims want to convert us, and part of their culture/religion is wearing a burka(sp?). Thats like yelling about a christian wanting someone to read a Bible. It really makes no sense, just riles the so called "Patriotic people of America" into an emotional frenzy backing George Bush.

Just my take on some things, thought this might be good for my first post here.

Being an Indian and having spent alot of time in India I can tell you something about our Muslim freinds. They will not force your women to wear burkas, in fact most Muslims in India that I have come across treat you with the same respect as they would treat thier fellow Islamics.

Our village was made up of Buddhists, Sikhs, Hindus, Muslims and they all got along quite well, noone was forcing thier respected faith upon another.

I dont see anything wrong with Muslims... They are nice people who treat you with respect, but not all of them...every nationality has it's share of idiots...

Two Minute Hate must have been extended.

I'm sick of getting FWD>FWD>FWD emails (work) from uneducated fools that imply all Muslims are guilty of [insert very, very bad things here]. Just this morning I was reading through an email that mentioned several attacks against the US committed by "MUSLIMS". Each time the word "Muslim" appeared it was in capital letters to suggest that ALL of them are evildoers.

Very true; they wouldn't even want to walk near that particular bees nest. Better to just put a $99 price tag on them and call it fashion - at least they'll wear them for about a month.

I thoroughly agree, from my perspective America is in a self-fuelling blind rage which is spiralling to become worse and worse, like an animal thrashing wildly at a wasp which as just stung it, but without the coordination (though certainly the brute force) to swat it, who in the process is trashing it's immediate surroundings.

Having a country so powerful as the USA in such blind irrational hatred is VERY dangerous for itself and the rest of the world. Having such moronism, ignorance and bigotism that is rampant in any country with the money and power that it has in America, this is made worse.

I remeber from my Ancient Civilizations class, that Islamic city-states let people with other religious views practice their belief sans persecution. It wasn't ALL city-states, but it was a few.
