This is a great example of selection bias. The OP is convinced there were a strangely large number of movies with '9' released in 2009.
Well, I've searched IMDb, and here are the tallies for each number (numeral, and spelled):
1: 48
One: 296
2: 121
Two: 67
3: 67
Three: 40
4: 26
Four: 32
5: 27
Five: 30
6: 17
Six: 17
7: 27
Seven: 24
8: 23
Eight: 9
9: 18
Nine: 15
0: 5
Zero: 16
(IMDb's search feature is somewhat intelligent, so the results are not perfectly accurate, some films will appear in both the numeric and word
counts)
So, you can see, that actually '9' and 'nine' were featured in movie titles nearly the least out of all the single digits. Only 'Eight', '0',
and 'Zero' were lower.
So no, I don't think 'they' even chose to use 9 or 'nine' in movies more than other numbers. I'm definitely not able to speculate on why a
group of people did something they demonstrably did not do
