What do YOU think was the most important Scientific discovery of 2009?

With the year drawing to a close, I thought it might be fun to take a survey as to what each member thinks was the most important SCIENTIFIC discovery of 2009.
I'll start. The discovery of water on the moon is my choice.

The leaked email's from the UN's climate research university.

Not sure if it counts, but I stand by it.

I would say I am torn on this. I have no single one that stands out, but a few.

To narrow it down, though, I would have to say one of the top performers for me was the microbes that create fuel oil as a waste. I always felt oil was a renewable source, and that fossil fuel was perhaps not what it actually was. I think a lot has come out about oil being not only renewable, but farmable.

Well, it sure wasn't the discovery of anti-gravity propulsion.

Making spinning super-conductors and spinning mercury plasma is too much for the scientist.

Hi! What about the laser that zapped the auminum and made a new state
of matter, transparent aluminum? Maybe UFOs are made of this, and you see them only when their laser isn't working. I think this experiment was in the news in September 2009.

Hi! I thought I read somewhere they already knew there was water on the
moon, and a thin layer of oxygen has shown up as well, since the 1969
first moon landing occured. I have a realitive's who husband works for that
satellite dropping mission, I don't like him I think he is a big fat overpaid liar. Went to Purdue, free graduate degree at MIT, says he's only into hard science facts no aliens possible. Well he signed a confidentiality agreement which makes him a paid liar. He also says no 2012 strange events will happen, we should all be happy and stress free. I bet he has first class reservations to a dumb too. He also spouts being a great Christian and treats my Aunt, who is his mother-in-law like dirt. I liked John Cussack's phrase in that 2012 movie, "When they tell you not to panic that's when you run!" As for dropping a 79 million dollar satelite
on the moon and cutting out the live feed video at the last minute, I say
spend more money on the schools and health care in this country,
stop being so damn wasteful! It's more important to develop clean free reuasble energy than to drop kinetic energy bombs on the moon.

I agree. I guess fantasy is still more important to most ATS members than true science is. Then again, after looking at the GW scam, why should I be surprised? Al Gore seems to have made fantasy a much bigger news item. True science always seems to take second place to fear mongering.
The world is boiling. All the seas will evaporate. Oh, wait, I forgot.. GW is supposed to make the seas increase, not boil away. Shame on me!
