Wow, very nice pictures! Thanks for sharing, S&F. I saved all of them, they're all so damn beautiful. Number 9 looks only what I could call "Christmas", does it not remind you of holiday colors or what?

If those photos don't make you feel tiny and insignificant I don't know what will!

I hope there is budget enough to keep up the telescope and to eventually replace it with something new and shiny.

Thankyou for posting those grantbeed.

I have a 12 inch Dobsonian just waiting for the right conditions. It's summer down here in the southern hemisphere and I'm on annual leave so I should have plenty of opportunities to use it.

These are beautiful, awe-inspiring images.

Most people don't know that the Hubble telescope dosen't take images in color.. The color is added in later by Nasa. I guess Nasa has to do it though.. without the color the Images would look awful.

These pics are awesome

Thanks for share
Never get tired of this "non human" made beauty...
Edit : Except the colour deco.

Also find it amazing to think that this telescope could be above, right in this minute

Where's Hubble now ?

Here is a nice picture of our MOON! I never thought that it looked like this. I have a telescope and I never seen it being this colorful.

www.rc-astro.com...

The Moon doesn't really look like that -- the colors in that image are over-saturated. The colors are really there, but they are much more subtle than that image shows. The Moon actually looks mostly grey to the human eye -- the color is difficult to discern, even if you were in lunar orbit.

Beautiful picture, though! Thanks!

Is it just me, or do these pictures look fake? Not saying they ARE fake, but they sure look like it. Beautiful pictures though

They are beautiful pictures -- And they ARE real. However, the colors you see in the images are not the colors that a human eye would see if they were actually next to one of these objects looking at it.

The colors are are "real things", but they would not be part of the visible spectrum. For example, they would take the image under using various wavelengths invisible to humans, then assign colors to those invisible wavelengths. The use of different wavelengths makes some invisible-to-humans materials visible.

HOWEVER, having said that:
These are still amazing images of our universe. Thanks OP!

I think we can all agree the pictures are beautiful and doesn't it make you wonder why we can't get colorful and clear pictues of the Moon and Mars

I've never seen such beautiful pics of "BANDWIDTH EXCEEDED: Upgrade to Photobucket Pro!" in my life!

Just having a larf! I went to the linked page an checked 'em out - cracking images! I particularly like the Cartwheel Galaxy pic, and NGC 1097 which reminds me of the old "Ulysses 31" cartoon...I was surprised to see the Martian 'Monolith' on a mainstream media website too.

It is hard to imagine that these sights really exist somewhere out there. Such beauty.

My favourite is $6, the crab nebula. Its soo detailed and if you look at the very centre point you see something that looks like a star and it sorta has spirals around it. The colours are fantastic.

At the edges of the purple bits you see stars that sorta look like galaxies... and then all around the whole things its pitch black. It's a lovely photo
