The Strange Encounters of John Vasquez : Fort Benning, September 1977
John recalls the main event as a confused event that took place one early evening in September of 1977. John explained it to me what he could clearly recall of that night.
“It was early evening. The night was a hot sticky southern night in September. About 1000 of us were called out into this big open field that stood in front of our barrack housing units. We were called to stand in formation waiting for the brass in charge to inform us of why we were called to the field. It was not the normal procedure to be called to this field at night and we all a bit nervous to what was going on.
As we stood there I heard some of the men in line talking and pointing. I heard them say something about something strange in the sky. Before I could figure out what they were talking about or looking at we were called to attention. I am not sure what took place during this time period. It is a mixture of being at attention in formation and of the men breaking ranks and yelling and talking about some thing approaching us from the night sky.
I could not see what was going on but realized as I tried to look to my left and right that some of the men standing around me seemed to be asleep while standing in formation. I then realized that half the field of men where yelling and running away from the field. I was able to see a blinding white light coming down over the field but could not distinguish what it was or what was happening. All I know is the men caught under or in that light were screaming and running away from it and the field.

Vasquez originally joined the Army National Guard in San Diego, California February, 1977. During training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, he opted to transfer into the regular Army. September, 1977 found him in D. Company, 1st Battalion, 1st Infantry Regiment undergoing advanced infantry training. On September 1, 1977 at 7:30 PM, "we were ordered out of our barracks to a mandatory formation. Captain K. was going to make a welcoming speech, as were all the other captains. I stood in formation for what seemed like 40 minutes, with about 1300 men. The soldier in front of me turned around saying, "Look to the right. You'll see a star there." “ That was only the beginning. For the next few weeks Vasquez and his fellow soldiers endured a nightmare of UFO sightings, teleportations, inexplicable madness, mysterious voices and mass abductions by aliens. He even witnessed an air battle between a UFO and an Army helicopter!

In September 1977, during the Joint Attack Weapons Systems Test (JAWS) at Fort Benning Georgia, the entire base witnessed a UFO invasion. As many as 1300 troops were involved in the event.
Most were left with severe psychological trauma and "missing time" gaps. John Vasquez was courageous enough to undergo counseling, regression therapy, and hypnosis.

Ft. Benning, GA - 1977
My name is Ken Darnell... I am a 51 year/old male... A career correctional training specialist with the North Carolina Department of Corrections and an E.M.T. (28 years service). I reside in Yanceyville, NC, with my wife and 12 year-old son.
I enlisted in the Army in 1976 and went to basic training in Ft. Knox, KY, from October thru December, 1976. In January 1977, I arrived at Ft. Benning, GA, to attend Indirect Fire Infantry school and Parachute Jump School.
Sometime between February, 1977, and April, 1977, I experienced what I know to be, a UFO encounter. My memory is quite clear of the event and I have never forgotten it. I know what I witnessed that night was not of this world.
I recall that on that night our platoon had reported to pick up our laundry for the week. We all had marched in formation to the laundry house, and stood at parade rest in line.
As the line would move, we all would come to attention, take 1 step forward, and then reassume parade rest. As we were doing this I saw several others in line looking up, and then someone point up to the sky.
I looked up and what I saw could best be described as several (8 or 10... maybe 12) points of light in the sky, all white, no color, no sound, larger than stars, yet still just points of light. The size of these lights would be comparable to the size of the planet Venus at nightfall.
These points of light were moving in what I have always described as "a swarm of gnats." The points of light moved all around each other as do gnats in a summertime swarm. But suddenly one of the points of light grew brighter and larger than all the others.
The other "swarming" lights suddenly formed a perfect circle around the brighter light and began to slowly rotate around it. The brighter light suddenly left the circle at tremendous speed and shot across the sky and suddenly stopped.

what we saw that night. It was amazing....and scary...the
speed at which those lights moved from horizon to horizon....and the sudden stops and turns have always
made me a believer that it was extraterrestrial craft, that I saw.

I wonder if it was inspired by the Fort Benning sighting?
